About

Underwater Barcelona is the city's PADI dive school, based at the Club Natació Barcelona on the Platja de Sant Sebastià in Barceloneta. It teaches facing the sea, from a working city beach, and holds the PADI 5 Star IDC rating, the highest recreational level, so it trains new divers and professional instructors alike, putting more than 20 PADI pros through its courses each year. The full ladder is here: discover scuba and Open Water for beginners, Advanced and Rescue, Divemaster and the Instructor Development Course, plus Nitrox, freediving, snorkeling, and technical diving support. Conservation is built into the brand rather than bolted on. As a PADI Eco Center it runs more than 20 seabed and beach cleanups a year, free for divers and with a marine biologist present at each seabed dive, and it folds Project Aware into its course programme. For certified divers who want richer water, it also runs fun-dive trips up the Costa Brava to the Medes Islands, the Boreas wreck at Palamós, and Lloret de Mar.

What Divers Say

The centre carries a strong reputation for an urban operator, holding 4.7 stars across more than 360 Google reviews. The recurring themes are patient, friendly instructors and a relaxed, well-organised first-dive experience, which fits its clientele of visitors and beginners taking their first breaths underwater in the city. Divers also single out the conservation side: the chance to join a cleanup dive, with gear provided and a biologist on hand, gives the experience a purpose beyond ticking off a bucket-list dive. Experienced divers tend to use the centre as a base for training or as a launch point for its Costa Brava trips rather than for the city water itself.
