DiveCodex

Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of DiveCodex and DiveLog. We’ve kept them straightforward — no 50-page legal document, just the essentials both sides need to agree on.

Last updated: 21 March 2026

The short version

  • You own your dive data. We store it for you; you can export or delete it.
  • Use the platform respectfully — don’t abuse it or harm others.
  • This is an independent project, not a company with SLAs — we do our best but can’t guarantee 100% uptime.
  • By using DiveCodex or DiveLog, you agree to these terms and our privacy policy.

What these services are

DiveCodex (divecodex.com) is a dive site reference. Anyone can browse it without an account.

DiveLog (log.divecodex.com) is a dive logging application. You create an account to record, manage, and optionally share your dive history.

Both are personal projects created and maintained by Jouni Kuisma, based in Spain. They are provided as-is — a passion project by a diver, for divers.

Your account

To use DiveLog, you need an account. When creating one:

  • Provide accurate information (a real email address you can access)
  • Keep your login credentials secure — you’re responsible for activity under your account
  • One account per person — don’t create multiple accounts
  • You must be at least 16 years old to create an account

You can delete your account at any time. When you do, all your personal data (dive logs, profile, club memberships) will be permanently removed. See our privacy policy for details on data handling.

Your data and content

Data ownership

Your dive logs, notes, and personal data belong to you. We store them on your behalf. You can export your data in a portable format or request full deletion at any time.

Public content

When you choose to make a dive log or profile public, you grant DiveCodex a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display that content on the platform. This licence exists solely so the platform can show your public content to other users. You can revoke it at any time by making your content private again or deleting it.

DiveCodex editorial content

The dive site guides, articles, and editorial content on DiveCodex are created by DiveCodex. You may reference and link to this content freely, but reproducing it in bulk requires permission.

Acceptable use

We trust our users. In return, please:

  • ×Don’t use the platform to harass, impersonate, or harm other users
  • ×Don’t attempt to access other users’ private data
  • ×Don’t use automated tools to scrape content at scale
  • ×Don’t post spam, malware, or illegal content
  • ×Don’t deliberately overload or disrupt the service

We reserve the right to suspend or remove accounts that violate these guidelines. We’ll try to communicate before taking action, except in cases requiring immediate response (security threats, illegal activity).

Limitations and liability

Service availability

DiveCodex and DiveLog are provided “as is”. We aim for reliability but can’t guarantee uninterrupted service. This is a personal project — not a commercially-backed platform with enterprise SLAs. We may need to take the service offline for maintenance, and we do our best to minimise disruption.

Dive safety

Information on DiveCodex (dive site descriptions, depths, conditions, difficulty ratings) is for general reference only. It is not a substitute for professional dive training, local briefings, or your own judgment. Conditions change constantly. Always dive within your training and certification level, check current conditions locally, and follow your dive centre’s guidance.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, DiveCodex and its creator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. This includes, but is not limited to, loss of data, loss of profits, or personal injury. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you have paid us (which, since the service is free, is zero).

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product evolves. When we make meaningful changes, we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date above. For significant changes that affect your rights, we may also notify you via email or an in-app notice.

Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. If you disagree with changes, you can stop using the service and delete your account.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Spain. Any disputes will be resolved under Spanish jurisdiction. As an EU-based service, your rights under EU consumer protection and data protection laws (including GDPR) are fully respected.
