Seahorses & pipefish

Syngnathidae

Seahorses are the ultimate slow-dive reward — tiny, superbly camouflaged, and easy to swim right past. Pipefish are their stretched-out cousins, hiding in seagrass and along ropes. A good guide and sharp eyes make all the difference.

A slender, elongated relative of the seahorse, often mistaken for a piece of seagrass. Look for their straight, rigid bodies and tiny tubular snouts among posidonia beds.
