About Albatros Diving

Set 50 metres from Cala Bona harbour, Albatros Diving carries Mallorca's first PADI Eco Center designation — an accreditation that requires active environmental programming, not just compliance. Founded in 1993, the centre has built its reputation on marine conservation alongside recreational diving. Since 2019, the team has included a marine biologist who manages operations and leads the Conservation Diver programme.

Two structured courses set Albatros apart from standard dive centres: the Conservation Diver Ecological Monitoring Programme (400 EUR) and the Seagrass Ecology Programme (275 EUR), both run in partnership with Conservation Diver. These are proper fieldwork courses, not one-day workshops. PADI recreational training covers Discover Scuba from age eight through to Divemaster, including eight specialty courses.

The dive programme reaches 25 named sites by boat within 20 minutes of Cala Bona, covering walls, sea caves, tunnels, Posidonia meadows, and Posidonia platforms at depths from 8m to 30m. Average visibility is around 30m. The Lagoon, a natural pool directly opposite the centre, handles first dives and tank-only sessions for guests who want to dive independently. Free transfers cover S'Illot, Sa Coma, Cala Millor, and Cala Bona.

Six languages are spoken by the team: Spanish, English, German, French, Catalan, and Dutch.

What Divers Say

Albatros Diving is consistently highly rated across a large combined review base rather than a small high-scoring sample. The conservation focus comes up consistently as a differentiator: guests describe an operation that takes the marine environment seriously without making it feel heavy-handed. The multilingual team, small group sizes, and the mix of beginner-friendly sites alongside more challenging dives draw repeated mention. Families with children and first-timers appear regularly in the accounts, as do returning divers who come back for specific courses or to continue into the conservation programme.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a PADI Eco Center, and why is Albatros Diving notable for it?
A PADI Eco Center accreditation requires active environmental commitment beyond standard dive centre operation — conservation programmes, sustainable practices, and community engagement. Albatros Diving was Mallorca's first centre to receive this designation and the second in the Balearic Islands. Its partnership with Conservation Diver adds two structured ecological monitoring programmes to the offer.
What Conservation Diver programmes are available?
Two programmes run through the centre: the Ecological Monitoring Programme (400 EUR) and the Seagrass Ecology Programme (275 EUR). Both are accredited through Conservation Diver and combine fieldwork skills with data collection methods for marine habitat assessment.
Are the east coast dive sites in a marine reserve?
No. The sites operated by Albatros Diving along the Cala Bona to Cala Ratjada coastline are not within a designated marine reserve. The area offers caves, tunnels, walls, and Posidonia meadows at depths from 8m to 30m, with average visibility around 30m, without permit requirements.
Can absolute beginners dive here?
Yes. Discover Scuba Diving is available from age 8 at 115 EUR. The half-day programme begins at 09:00 check-in and runs to approximately 13:00. The house reef in The Lagoon, directly opposite the centre, is used for first dives and cylinder rental.
What are conditions like on the east coast of Mallorca?
The east coast is sheltered from the prevailing westerly winds, which produces calmer surface conditions than the west coast for much of the season. Albatros Diving describes average visibility at 30m and no exhausting currents at their operating sites. Warm water runs from spring through autumn.
Who runs the centre today?
Albatros Diving was founded in 1993. The team that has led the centre since 2019 includes three instructors, one of whom brings a marine biology background and manages the conservation programme. Free transfers to the centre run from S'Illot, Sa Coma, Cala Millor, and Cala Bona.
