About Dive Boutique Cozumel
A cruise ship docks, and a diver can be in the water within the hour without ever booking a boat. Dive Boutique Cozumel builds its whole operation around that shape: a PADI 5 Star IDC shop on the Costera Sur, a 10 to 20 minute walk from the terminals, selling a guided shore dive at Tikila Beach as a complete outing, not a line item on someone else's schedule. One tank, about an hour underwater, 35 feet deep, back on dry land in roughly ninety minutes total.
The same shore entry doubles as the classroom. Confined-water skills for the Open Water course run at Tikila Beach, across the road from the shop, with a local pool held in reserve for days the water will not cooperate. Certification training is taught privately by policy: it does not depend on whichever group happens to book that week. The course runs two dives from shore before finishing on a two-tank boat trip, with a shore-only version available on request. Divemaster and instructor training reach further: Course Director Phillip Hetherington runs a 14-day IDC, and the shop is unusually direct about the fees a candidate pays PADI on top of its own price, down to the dollar.
A small retail floor sits alongside the diving: rental gear, dive accessories, GoPro housings, reef-safe sunscreen. The team is four names deep on the shop floor, plus Hetherington on the instructor side, and reviewers name the same handful of guides across two years and two platforms.
What divers say
Instructors are what reviewers return to by name. Gael, Ramon and Phillip Hetherington recur across TripAdvisor and Google, sometimes in accounts written a year apart describing the same guide. A second theme sits alongside it: patience with people who are nervous or new to the water, with more than one account describing a guide walking someone with a history of diving anxiety back into the sea. Group sizes read small. Two solo shore divers each report having a divemaster to themselves, and a couple diving from a boat describe a group of two. Two accounts, five months apart, describe visible coral and fish recovery at the shore-diving site. Across both review platforms there is no complaint on record. That says more about how small the corpus actually is than about a guaranteed experience.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I dive in Cozumel on a cruise stop without booking a boat?▾
That is the product this shop is built around. The guided shore dive is one tank, about 35 feet, roughly an hour underwater, with the whole outing running about 1.5 hours door to door. The shop is a 10 to 20 minute walk from the cruise terminals, so a diver leaving the ship at 09:30 can be back aboard well before noon.
What does the guided shore dive actually involve?▾
Certified divers only, meeting at the shop for three daily start times, then a shore entry at Tikila Beach across the road. One tank is standard, with a second on request and a guided night version by request too. Equipment rental is charged separately from the dive itself.
Can I train privately instead of in a group?▾
Open Water is taught privately as policy, not as a premium add-on. It runs about three days once eLearning is done, and includes a dive computer, DAN student insurance and certification in the price. Two of the four open-water dives are from shore and two from a two-tank boat trip, or a shore-only version is available on request.
Where does a Cozumel shop with no pool teach confined-water skills?▾
Across the road, at Tikila Beach, with a local pool held in reserve for days the shore conditions do not cooperate.
What does it cost to go professional here, and what does PADI charge separately?▾
The 14-day Instructor Development Course is $1,800, with EFR Instructor and Specialty Instructor training available on top. The centre also publishes what it does not collect: PADI's own Instructor Examination fee, the IDC and EFRI application fees, and a per-specialty application charge, all billed by PADI directly to the candidate.
Does this centre run its own boat dives too?▾
Its shore program is what it sells and describes in its own voice. A two-tank boat dive is offered too, but the shop's own site never states it runs that trip itself, and the one page describing it carries another operation's branding. A shared or partnered boat is the likelier reading here, though that is an inference and not something the centre confirms outright, so ask directly about the boat, the departure point and the reefs on offer before booking one.
Is there a minimum age to dive here?▾
Ten, for both Discover Scuba Diving and Open Water. Junior Open Water covers ages 10 to 14 with age-appropriate depth limits and extra parental sign-off for the youngest divers.
