About
Isla Sub VRSA is an SSI dive club (SSI centre #735114) and IPDJ-licensed diving school (licence #60) based in Vila Real de Santo António, the easternmost town of the Algarve, where the Guadiana river meets the sea directly opposite Ayamonte on the Spanish side. It trades under the Isla Sub VRSA name; its formal registration reads Clube de Mergulho Vila Real Santo António, the same club, phone number and website across every listing found. It is not PADI- or CMAS-affiliated on the evidence available.
The club is boat-based, not a resort-style operation, diving from two of its own vessels, 6.80 m and 4.00 m, out of a meeting point next to the VRSA-Ayamonte ferry crossing. Its house sites are wrecks and reefs a short run from the estuary mouth: the Empire Warrior, a British cargo ship reported sunk by a German bomber in 1941, lies at 18 metres, alongside natural reefs, an artificial reef built from stacked concrete modules, and the barge and crane that placed it. A separate group of cave and grotto sites around Sagres, at the far end of the Algarve, is offered without individual names or depths given.
Courses run the SSI ladder from Try Scuba through Open Water, Advanced Adventurer and specialties in Nitrox, equipment, night diving, buoyancy, navigation, wreck and deep diving, up to the Dive Guide and Divemaster professional tracks, plus a Junior track for ages 10 to 14.
What divers say
Isla Sub VRSA carries only a handful of reviews in total, too few to establish a real pattern. The one review with recoverable text, left in 2017, praises the teaching itself over the certification: real follow-up through both theory and practice, not simply a sale, experienced tutors, and outings described as pleasant, reasonably priced and well briefed. The aggregate scores point the same direction as that one account, consistently positive, which on this little evidence reads as a weak but genuine signal, not yet a settled reputation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the address for Isla Sub VRSA?▾
Isla Sub VRSA's own contact details give Rua do Guadiana, Armazéns nº 7 (a warehouse/boat-storage unit) as its address, but a different address, Av. da República 13, appears in other public listings for the same business. Both sit in the same small stretch of Vila Real de Santo António by the Guadiana estuary; confirm which one is your meeting point when you book, since it isn't clear from the public listings whether one is a storage address and the other the check-in point.
Does Isla Sub VRSA fill nitrox tanks for its Nitrox specialty course?▾
The club teaches an SSI Nitrox specialty, but the one listing that details its gas fills shows air only, with no nitrox blending capability noted (an inconsistency the listing itself doesn't explain). Confirm fill availability directly with the club before you book a nitrox course or dive.
What's the difference between Isla Sub VRSA's Junior track and its Open Water course?▾
The Junior track runs from ages 10 to 14. The standard SSI Open Water Diver course also has a minimum age of 10 but a higher maximum depth, 18 metres, once certified. Below both sits a pool or ocean Try Scuba session, open to anyone able to swim, with no age floor stated.
Can I pay Isla Sub VRSA by card, or is it cash only?▾
The one listing covering payment methods shows cash only, though that same listing's other details, like its opening hours, read as internally inconsistent. It's worth confirming payment options directly with the club instead of assuming there's no card facility.
Do any of Isla Sub VRSA's dive sites cross into Spain?▾
Yes. Two of the club's nine named house sites sit on the Spanish side of the Guadiana estuary: a fishing-boat wreck at 10 metres and a second wreck, the deepest site the club names, at 38 metres.
Does Isla Sub VRSA also run trips to Sagres?▾
The club lists a separate group of cave and grotto sites around Sagres, at the western tip of the Algarve, alongside its local Guadiana-estuary sites, though it gives no individual names or depths for the Sagres group, likely day trips or guided excursions rather than a house site.
