Sa pedrera 01

Trawler Hermanos Florit (sunk 1995) at 12-29m near La Savina, Formentera's all-levels wreck with a colonised hull set in posidonia.

Last updated June 2026

The dive

The Hermanos Florit wreck sits close to La Savina on Formentera's west coast, set in an extensive Posidonia oceanica meadow. The mooring is on a large rock; from there a wall runs north to south from 12 to 25m, its surface layered with sponge growth, nudibranchs, flatworms, and feather stars. A small crack at the base of the mooring rock around 15m offers a point of interest on the approach. The wreck itself rests in this zone — its colonised hull now supporting groupers and moray eels in and around the structure, with conger eels working the interior.

The posidonia meadow setting gives the site a character different from rocky reef dives. The filtered light in the meadow zones and the textured hull surface reward photographers with close-up subjects at a manageable depth.

What makes it special

For an all-levels site at 12-29m, the Punta Pedrera wreck holds more texture than the certification suggests. The adjacent wall gives photographers a colonised canvas from shallow to moderate depth. The wreck adds structure and shadow. Together they make a single dive that moves through open posidonia, a multi-species wall, and a colonised steel hull — three distinct environments without leaving the site. Proximity to La Savina makes it the natural choice for a first morning dive or a warm-up before a deeper afternoon site.

Know before you go

Some current is reported at Punta Pedrera; check the day's conditions with your operator before heading out. The posidonia mooring requires care — position above the meadow rather than anchoring in it. Macro photography kit suits this site well. From September, amberjack schools may pass through. A 5mm wetsuit covers summer; bring a 7mm for shoulder-season diving.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Hermanos Florit wreck in Formentera?
The Hermanos Florit is a fishing trawler that ran aground on Punta Pedrera in September 1995. It settled at 12-29m in a posidonia meadow on Formentera's west coast, close to La Savina port. Over thirty years, the hull has been colonised by sponges, nudibranchs, and the fish community typical of structure wrecks.
Is this the same as the Atlantis or Sa Pedrera snorkelling site?
No. The Atlantis formation — locally called Sa Pedrera — is a geological rock formation on Formentera's west coast popular for freediving and snorkelling. This site is the Hermanos Florit trawler wreck at 12-29m, a scuba dive. The two are different sites in the same general area.
What marine life is at the Punta Pedrera wreck?
Groupers and moray eels are the main resident fish. The hull surface carries sponge growth, nudibranchs, flatworms, and feather stars. The adjacent wall also holds conger eels. From September, schools of amberjack have been reported moving through the area.
Do I need a permit to dive the Punta Pedrera wreck?
No. The site is in or adjacent to the general zone of the Es Freus Marine Reserve, where scuba diving requires no permit. The reserve prohibits removing marine life or carrying fishing instruments other than a safety knife.
Is the Punta Pedrera wreck suitable for beginners?
Yes. The upper sections at 12-18 m are well-suited to Open Water divers; the deeper hull to 29 m requires AOW certification or direct instructor supervision. Some current is reported here, so beginners should always dive with a guide who can manage conditions. The macro life on the hull is ideal for those working on buoyancy and observation skills.
