The Bridge

Shore-entry dive in Pollença bay (N Mallorca) following a natural channel to a rock arch at 11-16m; eels, fish schools and nudibranchs in calm, sheltered bay waters.

Last updated June 2026

The dive

The channel begins at the shore entry in the Bay of Pollença, a natural pathway that cuts outward through the rocky bottom. Following it requires no compass — the channel walls guide the route. At approximately 11-16m the rock forms a natural arch, the dive's centrepiece and the origin of the site's name. Air bubbles rise periodically through crevices in the arch, drifting upward in columns through the blue-green water. Eels inhabit the channel walls throughout the route, occupying crevices and overhanging rock at every depth. Fish schools move back and forth above the sandy bottom. Nudibranchs appear on shaded surfaces for photographers who slow down enough to look. At 16m the bottom flattens to sand before the return route back along the channel. The whole profile sits above the summer thermocline, so the water is warmer at depth here than at any of the deeper Mallorca sites.

What makes it special

The Bridge is the entry point into Pollença bay diving. Easy without being featureless: the channel provides structure, the arch gives the dive a centrepiece, and the eels ensure there is always something in the crevices. For divers making the step from pool sessions to open water it is a reliable first sea dive. For more experienced divers pairing it with Cave of Jeronimo, it serves as a relaxed warm-up that covers different terrain at a pace that extends air supplies before the main event.

Know before you go

Shore entry makes this logistically simple. The bay is sheltered but a strong north wind can bring chop to the entry point; operators check conditions before going in. At 16m, summer water is noticeably warmer than the deeper Mallorca sites, so a thin wetsuit is often adequate. The channel provides natural orientation from start to finish — stay with it on the way out and return along it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the arch at The Bridge?
A natural rock formation in the seabed at approximately 11-16m depth. The site takes its name from this arch. Air bubbles rise through crevices in the rock during the swim-through — a small detail that gives the arch its character. It is a natural feature, not a man-made structure.
Is The Bridge suitable for Discover Scuba participants?
Yes. The sheltered bay, negligible current, shore entry and 16m maximum depth make it a standard venue for first dive experiences in the Pollença area. Local operators use it for introductory and OW course dives.
What is the water temperature at The Bridge?
At 16m maximum, the site sits above the main summer thermocline. Bottom temperatures reach 20-24°C in July and August — noticeably warmer than the deeper Mallorca sites. A 3-5mm wetsuit is adequate in peak summer.
How does The Bridge compare with Cave of Jeronimo?
The two sites cover opposite ends of the Pollença bay range. The Bridge is shore-accessible, 16m maximum, easy, and suitable for all certified divers. Cave of Jeronimo is a boat dive to 30m rated intermediate, with an overhead cave environment and an air chamber. A natural day pairs The Bridge as a warm-up with Cave of Jeronimo as the main event.
Can I dive The Bridge independently?
Experienced divers familiar with the bay can enter from shore independently. For those new to the area, joining a guided dive from one of the Port de Pollença centres is the practical route — they know the entry point, conditions and the arch location.
