About Scuba Murcia

Scuba Murcia operates from kilometre 1 of La Manga Strip, opposite Hotel Entremares in the Centro Comercial Entremares. Ed Smith and Jo Golder, husband-and-wife principals featured on Channel 4's "A New Life In The Sun," lead a small permanent team rather than a seasonal hire pool. Ed holds PADI Staff Instructor, SSI Staff Instructor, TDI Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Instructor, and PSAI Full Cave Instructor ratings with 25-plus years and 6,000-plus dives. Jo is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer and SSI Sidemount Instructor and answers bookings directly.

The centre is British-owned and English-first by design, with Spanish and Dutch also spoken in-house. Class sizes are kept small and bookings are personally handled rather than routed through an automated system, which sets a real ceiling on capacity in peak weeks. A strict no-touch and no-animal-harassment policy is part of every brief; the team explicitly declines paid eco-accreditation, treating environmental ethics as training rather than a website badge.

PADI, SSI, TDI, and PSAI all run from the same building. Recreational courses go from Discover Scuba through Divemaster. Technical progressions reach Extended Range at 55 metres, and the centre guides trimix dives on the SS Stanfield. The Cueva del Agua, a warm freshwater cave 45 minutes inland, is the signature non-reserve dive: cavern outings for certified divers and full PSAI cave training for those who want it.

What Divers Say

Five-star ratings hold across two independent platforms. TripAdvisor shows 5.0 from 113 reviews, Google Reviews 5.0 from 154 ratings, and Yumping 9.1 from 19. Several themes recur. Small groups and unhurried briefings come up first, often phrased as the antidote to crowded boat operations elsewhere on the coast. Repeat customers are not occasional. Father-and-son returns over multiple seasons appear by name in multi-year reviews, and Spanish-speaking advanced students describe coming back the following summer.

A second pattern is confidence rebuilding. Jo and Ed are credited with restoring nervous divers, lapsed certifiers, and children with additional needs to comfort in the water. The constructive note across reviews is consistent: peak-season availability is tight, and last-minute bookings sometimes miss out. Book ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Scuba Murcia good for English-speaking divers?
Yes. The centre is British-owned and run by Ed Smith and Jo Golder, with English as the default working language. Reviewer profiles cluster heavily UK and Ireland. Spanish and Dutch are also spoken in-house.
Can I dive Cueva del Agua with Scuba Murcia?
Yes. The centre runs guided cavern and cave dives at the Cueva del Agua, a freshwater cave system about 45 minutes from La Manga with water around 29 °C. Single-dive guided cavern outings are 150 EUR, two-dive trips 220 EUR. Full Cave certification with Ed Smith (PSAI Full Cave Instructor) is offered on request.
What technical diving does Scuba Murcia teach?
TDI and PSAI progressions from Intro to Tech and Advanced Nitrox through Decompression Procedures to Extended Range at 55m. PSAI Cavern, Intro to Cave, and Full Cave are also taught. Guided trimix dives reach the SS Stanfield wreck at around 65m and the Carbonero wreck at 45m.
How big are the dive groups at Scuba Murcia?
Small groups are a stated part of the operating model and a recurring point in reviews. One reviewer in August 2025 noted that groups stayed small enough to avoid the crowded conditions sometimes found elsewhere in the area. Booking is personally handled, which caps capacity in practice.
Do I need to book Scuba Murcia in advance?
Yes, especially in peak season from June to September. Multiple reviews mention near-misses on availability during summer. Bookings go through phone, email, or the website rather than an automated system, so a few days of lead time is sensible.
Does Scuba Murcia run beginner courses for children?
Yes. Discover Scuba Diving sessions are available from 90 EUR. Reviewers describe the team taking time with first-time divers, including a teenager with autism, and rebuilding confidence for nervous or returning divers across multiple visits.
What dive sites does Scuba Murcia visit?
Within the Cabo de Palos and Islas Hormigas reserve, the centre dives Bajo de Fuera, Cala Escalera, Cala Reona, the Naranjito wreck, and the SS Stanfield. Wider trips reach the Cueva del Agua, the Carbonero wreck, and sites in the Cabo Tinoso reserve near Cartagena, including Isla Pallomas and Roca Blanca.
