El negre

El Negre spans 14-28 metres across multiple sections. The shallowest option (El Negre 15-22) suits Open Water divers, while El Negret reaches 23-28 metres and requires Advanced certification. Centres typically offer a deeper section first, followed by a shallower ridge as a second dive.

Early summer. Local divers report groups of hundreds of eagle rays passing over the ridge during their annual migration. The timing is unpredictable within the June-July window, so this is a fortunate encounter rather than a reliable sighting.

The El Triangul section at 16-22 metres is known among local divers as 'El paraiso de los Nudis' for its exceptional nudibranch density. The porous biogenic rock provides ideal substrate, and the Mataro-end of the ridge has the highest concentration. A flashlight is essential to find them in the crevices.

Approximately 1.5 kilometres, running parallel to the coast. It is divided into named sections — El Negre main (15-26m), El Negre 15-22, El Negre Petit (17-28m), El Negret (23-28m), and El Triangul (16-22m) — each with different depth profiles and character.

El Negre Petit is considered one of the best ridges for photography in the Mataro area. The combination of gorgonians at depth, dense nudibranch populations, and porous rock creating natural frames makes it productive for both macro and wide-angle work when visibility allows.
