About
Clube Naval de Cascais runs its PADI 5 Star dive department from inside a large sailing club at the Cascais marina. The club was founded in 1938 and today runs Portugal's biggest sailing school and holds the country's most Olympic sailing medals of any Portuguese club, going back to the 1948, 1952 and 1960 Games. Diving sits alongside that sailing history as one department among many, with an air-conditioned classroom and training pool on site. Four PADI instructors teach the recreational ladder in English, Spanish and Portuguese: Discover Scuba first, in the pool or the sea, then Open Water Diver (working to 18 m, mostly shallower dives around 12 m), Advanced Open Water Diver (up to 30 m depending on age) and Rescue Diver. A professional pathway continues to Divemaster, which asks for a current Rescue Diver certification, Emergency First Response training completed within the last 24 months, a minimum of 40 logged dives and a dive medical cleared within the last 12 months.
Every course on that ladder carries two prices, one for the public and a lower one for club members, and courses run year-round, in summer and in winter alike. Dives and open-water sessions go out from the club's own boat at the Cascais marina, the same waterfront base where the classroom and training pool sit.
It's also credited as the contributing PADI member behind three named sites on this coast, Boca do Inferno, Canyon do Inferno and Pedra do Spinola, though its own course pages describe the diving in general terms, as a chance to see the region's fauna and flora, without naming where the boat goes. Alongside its PADI ladder, it carries an SSI listing for freediving and technical and extended-range diving.
What divers say
One outside dive-travel publication names Clube Naval de Cascais's dive boats as a feature of the Cascais coast, in the same passage as the area's best-known shark-sighting site, though that's a mention, not a review1. Its diving department has never generated a rating of its own: the score attached to this address is the whole club's Marina-category listing, pooling the sailing school, the restaurant and the moorage into one figure that says nothing about diving specifically. A diver checking this centre by its star rating, the way they might check a harbour dive shop, ends up reading the sailing club's reputation: the dive department has none of its own to show.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Clube Naval de Cascais a yacht club or a dive shop?▾
Both, in a sense. It's the diving department of an 800-member sailing club founded in 1938, run from the club's own premises at the Cascais marina, but it's a PADI 5 Star Dive Center in its own right, with four PADI instructors and a full recreational course ladder open to non-members.
Can non-members take diving courses at Clube Naval de Cascais?▾
Yes. Every course on its recreational ladder is priced at a public rate and a lower club-member rate, from the introductory Discover Scuba session through to Divemaster, so joining the club is not a requirement to train here.
Which dive sites does Clube Naval de Cascais visit?▾
Its own course pages don't name sites, inviting divers simply to discover the region's fauna and flora. The detail comes from elsewhere: it's credited as the contributing PADI member behind three named sites on this coast, Boca do Inferno, Canyon do Inferno and Pedra do Spinola.
Does Clube Naval de Cascais teach freediving or technical diving?▾
Yes, separately from its PADI recreational ladder. It carries an SSI listing covering freediving and technical and extended-range diving, alongside the core scuba courses.
Is the Google rating for Clube Naval de Cascais about diving?▾
Not specifically. The listing sits under the club's general Marina category, shared with the sailing school, the restaurant and moorage, so it reads as the whole club's aggregate rather than a diving-specific score.
How many divers go out together on a dive or course here?▾
Group size is set per booking through the club secretariat, not published as a fixed diver-to-guide ratio. Registration is confirmed once requirements and payment are complete, so that's also the point to ask about numbers if a small group matters to your trip.
How do I book a course at Clube Naval de Cascais?▾
By email or in person at the club secretariat; the club confirms your place once the paperwork and payment are complete.
