About Puerto Rico Diving

Puerto Rico Diving has run from the same unit in the Europa Shopping Center since 2002, one of the longest-standing dive shops on this stretch of Gran Canaria's south coast. Mike and Holly, a couple who met while both working as dive instructors in Croatia, took over the business in 2017 and have run it together ever since. Mike is a PADI IDC Staff Instructor with more than 5,000 logged dives; Holly is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer who also leads the center's snorkel tours. Marion, who trained as an instructor in Honduras, joined the team and now dives Gran Canaria daily alongside them.

The center is a shore-diving specialist: almost every certified-diver trip launches straight from the beach or volcanic coastline, with boat dives available on request. There is no fixed weekly schedule; the team picks each day's site, from Tufia to El Cabrón to the Biotopos artificial reef, based on conditions rather than a set rotation. Groups are kept small, a 4:1 ratio on courses and a maximum of 6 divers per guide on fun dives, and the course roster runs from a child's first Bubblemaker splash to Divemaster training. Free hotel pickup covers nearly the entire south-coast resort strip, and DAN dive insurance plus full equipment hire are bundled into every published price rather than charged as extras.

What Divers Say

Puerto Rico Diving holds a 5.0 rating across 794 TripAdvisor reviews and 4.9 across hundreds more on Google, sustained over multiple years rather than a recent spike, plus a TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice award every year since 2017. Reviewers repeatedly name the same handful of instructors, a sign of a small, stable team rather than high turnover, and several are returning customers who have booked with the center across multiple trips. A recurring theme is the center's willingness to change or cancel a planned dive site based on conditions and explain why, rather than diving a marginal site to keep to a schedule. The pattern holds across very different audiences: nervous first-timers and children praised for patient handling, and long-certified divers with decades of experience singling out sites like El Cabrón as among the best they have dived.
