Also known as: Pedra de Santa Eulália, Santa Eulália
A shallow 8-13m rock reef off Praia de Santa Eulália near Albufeira: shore or boat access, seahorses and dense reef life in a small area.

The dive
A short walk down from the car park behind the beach puts divers straight into the water off Praia de Santa Eulália, or a quick run out of Marina de Albufeira drops them onto the same reef from a boat. Either way, the profile stays shallow throughout: rock close offshore, rising and breaking across a sand-and-rock bottom between 8 and 13 metres. Two named zones make up the site, Santa Eulalia I and Santa Eulalia II, both graded for Open Water divers, and neither pushes past 13 metres. There is no fixed route or long swim to a feature; the reward is working a small area slowly, life packed into the cracks and low ridges instead of spread thin across open ground.
What makes it special
Santa Eulalia has been a fixture of local diving around Albufeira for at least a decade, referred to simply as "Pedra Santa Eulália" in amateur dive logs going back to 2013 and still paired with the newer EDP Art Reef in more recent ones. What sets it apart from a straightforward beginner reef is the density packed into a shallow, close-in space: seahorses are named specifically at this reef, alongside the octopus, moray and other typical Algarve reef life that share the rock. The combination of an easy, everyone-can-dive profile with a shore option right off the beach and a boat option from the marina a few minutes away gives it a flexibility most nearby reefs, which are boat access only, do not offer.
Know before you go
A car park sits behind the beach, with free roadside parking as a fallback when it fills in high season. The reef sits outside the Pedra do Valado marine park's boundary, so none of that park's permit or zoning rules apply here. Easydivers, based at Marina de Albufeira, is the dive centre that names and runs trips to this site. Plan a standard recreational profile within the depth and certification limits above.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do some sources put Santa Eulalia's maximum depth at 18 metres when others say 8-13?▾
Three independent sources converge on a shallow 8-13 metre profile: a database record giving 12 metres, an independent Albufeira dive-spot listing giving 10-12 metres, and the covering operator's own grading of its two named sub-sites here at 8-13 and 10-13 metres. One separate AI-assisted search pass instead returned 18 metres, most likely by pulling in the adjacent, deeper EDP Art Reef instead of this one. Treat 8-13 metres as the working figure.
Why isn't Santa Eulalia inside the Pedra do Valado marine park like some other Albufeira reefs?▾
Its coordinates sit east of the park's stated eastern limit at Albufeira marina, so the park's rules do not apply here. No permit is reported for diving this reef, though that comes from a single source and not an official listing, so it is worth a quick check with whoever runs your trip.
Is this Santa Eulalia the same dive site as the one in Ibiza, Spain?▾
No. Santa Eulalia (Santa Eulària des Riu) is also a town and coastal area in Ibiza with its own dive site of the same name. This entry is the rocky reef off Praia de Santa Eulália near Albufeira, on Portugal's Algarve coast, an unrelated site in a different country.
