About
Dune Red Sea is a day-boat operation: the Ramadan II, a pickup at your hotel in Safaga, two dives, and a buffet lunch cooked aboard with a surface interval of at least 1 h 30. The boat is 25 m long, approved for 35 people, with an air-conditioned saloon, three showers and a crew of captain, chef and three sailors. On the way back to the marina there is a snack.
The base sits in the Aluminium marina, where the centre fills its own air and Nitrox and keeps 30 complete sets of equipment. The marina has free wifi and a shaded terrace for the end of the day.
Dune is a French-run group that dates itself to 1997 and also sells liveaboard cruises, which are separate products from this day centre. The Safaga centre holds PADI 5 Star IDC Resort status and teaches Scuba Diver, Open Water over five days, Advanced Open Water over three, and the Nitrox specialty in a day. Charlie manages the centre, and the guides named on its pages are Laurence, Saher, Mohamed and Abdu.
Its destinations are the Safaga staples: the Abu Soma coral garden and Middle Reef for reef, the Abu Kefan and Panorama Reef drop-offs, and the Salem Express wreck.
What divers say
Praise under the Dune name gathers around the crew, the food, safety-minded guides and a well-kept boat. Much of it comes from guests of the group's liveaboards, and several accounts describe a week at sea with cabins, so it speaks for the cruises more than for a day out of Safaga marina. One cruise review describes a dive in rough sea that the guest felt should have been cancelled.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum age for the PADI Open Water course?▾
The course page gives two ages: 10 and over in its header, and from 12 in its requirements text. Confirm the age with the centre before booking a child. Snorkelling and discovery dives are listed from 8.
What is not covered by the five-day, ten-dive package?▾
Diving equipment is not part of that package, and neither is guide supervision, which is compulsory on the packages for Open Water / Level 1 divers and anyone with fewer than 30 dives and is paid on site. A service fee per person per day is also paid on site, and environmental taxes and dive insurance are extra. Certified divers get Nitrox included on presentation of their card.
Is equipment included on a day trip?▾
It depends on the product. The discovery-dive and Open Water pages include it. The five-day package does not, and the centre has 30 complete sets available to hire.
How long is the ride to the dive sites, and when does the boat come back?▾
Dune's Safaga trips put the crossing at 25 minutes to 1 h 30 depending on the site, with the return to the marina between 15:00 and 16:30. The centre names the Abu Soma coral garden, Middle Reef, the Abu Kefan and Panorama Reef drop-offs and the Salem Express wreck among its destinations, and each day uses two different sites.
Can I dive Nitrox on a day trip?▾
Yes. The marina base fills its own air and Nitrox, and certified divers can take the PADI Nitrox specialty in one day. Bring your certification card so the included Nitrox on the five-day package applies.
Is hotel pickup included?▾
Pickup from hotels within Safaga is part of the day trip. A transfer between an airport and your hotel is not included.
