About

Four names anchor Mardays' day-to-day operation. Rafa Peña is technical director, drawing on more than twenty years running dive schools across the Marina Alta. Joan Moltó oversees courses and is known locally for spotting seahorses around Javea. Francisco Serrano, a Javea native, manages boats and facilities. Pablo Lopez founded the centre and now handles administration. That kind of named, public leadership roster is unusual among the Javea-zone centres.

The centre relocated from Denia to Playa del Arenal, setting up in the channel opposite the Parador Nacional. Diving sits inside a wider beach operation: paddle-surf rental and excursions, a private trimaran charter for up to twelve guests complete with an awning and fridge, and a dive-side bar serving rice and pasta dishes between dives. The course path runs from a Discover Scuba Diving try-dive through Open Water, Advanced, Rescue, and Dry Suit training, alongside the centre's own guided Granadella boat tour. Staff relationships are pitched as personal rather than transactional, aimed at making each guest feel individually looked after.

What Divers Say

Reviews from mid-2026 consistently praise the crew's warmth and patience with mixed-ability groups. Divers repeatedly name the Granadella Tour as a highlight, describing captain Federico steering the boat while the crew shares local knowledge along the way. Guide Javi gets singled out for adjusting explanations so confident and nervous divers in the same group both came away satisfied. One reviewer calls a first dive of the year with the team an annual tradition worth repeating. Several others describe returning across different seasons for the same crew. No safety or service complaints turn up in the material reviewed, and the overall tone leans toward a small operation that treats returning divers like regulars rather than one-off customers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long has Mardays been operating in Javea?
Since 2012, as a PADI-approved dive centre. It relocated from Denia to its current Playa del Arenal address, opposite the Parador Nacional.
Who runs the diving at Mardays?
Four named staff cover the main roles: Rafa Peña as technical director, Joan Moltó managing courses, Francisco Serrano overseeing boats and facilities, and Pablo Lopez, the centre's founder, on administration.
What is the Granadella Tour?
A guided boat tour out of Canal de la Fontana to Granadella, run by Mardays as its own signature product alongside standard single and double boat dives.
What dive sites does Mardays visit?
Isla del Portichol is the centre's dedicated dive, a rocky island with a maximum depth of 18 metres and submerged banks to the north around 20-22 metres. Granadella and points further afield are covered by boat trips.
Does Mardays dive inside the Cabo San Antonio Marine Reserve?
The reserve sits along the boat route Mardays runs between Javea and Denia, and the crew points out its cliffs and the Cova Tallada landmark on the way. Diving or taking a course inside the Denia reserve zone itself is limited to experienced divers under the reserve's own rules, so most trips focus on points like Portichol and the Granadella Tour instead.
Can non-divers join a Mardays trip?
Yes. Paddle-surf excursions and rental, snorkelling trips, and a private trimaran charter for up to twelve guests are all available alongside scuba diving.
What certifications does Mardays teach?
PADI courses from Discover Scuba Diving through Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Rescue plus EFR, Dry Suit, and on to professional levels including Divemaster and Instructor.
