Medusas Dive

Eider and Aida met on the ferry between Playa del Carmen and Cozumel, discovered a shared love of diving on a dive together the next day, and built that friendship into a dive school. Both are originally from Spain: Aida started diving at 16 with her first summer-job paycheck and later worked as an instructor at that same Spanish centre, and Eider went from childhood snorkelling to earning every certification needed to teach. The name comes from medusas, jellyfish, for the lightness and freedom they say the animal shares with diving.

The school runs as an SSI Instructor Training Center, the affiliation level authorised to train other instructors, not only recreational divers, built around small groups: the standard two-tank reef trip holds one instructor per four divers, departs the Fonatur pier for a five-hour run covering two different reefs inside Cozumel's national park, and includes gear, food and return transport. Booking runs mostly through WhatsApp, with a calendar as a backup channel. Beyond the founders, the team includes Paulo, a cavern instructor who guides cenote trips, instructor Manu, and divemaster Anahi. Medusas states an explicitly inclusive, LGBT+-friendly philosophy alongside its small-group approach to safety.

Medusas holds a strong overall record across the review platforms checked, with only a handful of negative reviews out of hundreds. Divers most often describe first Caribbean dives, or a return to diving after years away, made comfortable by patient, safety-forward briefings that match the operator's stated one-to-four ratio. Fast WhatsApp responses come up often too, including for short-notice bookings, and the same lead guide recurs by name across independent reviews from different dates and groups.

The one safety-adjacent theme worth naming traces to a single Advanced Open Water course, where two participants describe losing contact with the group during training dives, once by day and once at night. The operator's response, posted to both, confirms locating and checking each diver at the surface, treats some independence as expected at that certification level, and disputes the reviews' account of the night dive's lighting. It is a narrow pattern within a much larger and largely positive record, not repeated elsewhere in the sample.
