About
Scuba Total Cancun works out of Marina AquaFun in the Cancun Hotel Zone, at Blvd. Kukulcan km 16.2, within about 35 minutes of any reef along the Cancun coast. It is family-run and deliberately small: four divers to one instructor or guide is the limit on every trip, not a quiet ambition. Boats carry a canopy, twin outboards, VHF, oxygen and a first aid kit. Instruction spans PADI, SSI, SDI and TDI, which lets a diver pick the certification rather than inherit the shop's.
The regular schedule covers the shallow inside-bay reefs and MUSA, the underwater sculpture museum, at 8m to 10m, the outside reefs at 15m to 18m, and the C-55 and C-58 minesweeper wrecks at 26m. Day trips run inland to the Riviera Maya cenotes, guided by a dedicated full-cave diver, and across to Cozumel for wall and drift diving and the C-53 wreck at 24m. Seasonal additions include bull sharks off Playa del Carmen in winter, whale shark snorkelling from May to August, and an offshore run to the Manta Valley pinnacles in autumn for divers with 50 dives or more.
Staff work in Spanish, English and Portuguese. The marina base has free parking, fresh-water showers, lockers, gear cleaning and storage, and a restaurant; hotel transfer is a separate arrangement. Open Monday to Saturday, closed Sunday.
What divers say
Reviews sit at 5.0 across 320 Google ratings and 943 on TripAdvisor, where the centre ranks second of 77 Cancun nature and outdoor operators. Two threads run through them. The first is pre-trip correspondence: divers describe writing to several Cancun shops, getting one thin reply and one silence, and booking here because the answer came back fast and carried actual schedules and prices. The second is that staff get named. Aldo, Rafa, Manu, Fabio and Gaby appear individually in recent reviews rather than as an anonymous crew, and the same names recur across trips months apart, which says something about turnover that no marketing page can say for itself. Safety and reef care tend to be mentioned in the same breath rather than as separate boxes ticked.

How large are the dive groups at Scuba Total Cancun?▾
Four divers to one instructor or guide, and the limit is stated on every trip the centre sells rather than offered as a best case. Cenote trips run to the same ratio behind a full-cave guide.
Is Scuba Total Cancun a PADI dive centre?▾
It teaches PADI courses alongside SSI, SDI and TDI, and treats that spread as letting a diver choose the syllabus. It is not a PADI-contracted dive centre, so no PADI star rating attaches to it. The agency names tell you which certification you can walk out with, not how the shop is graded.
What certification do I need for the C-55 and C-58 wrecks?▾
Open Water and some experience. The wrecks sit at about 26m in current that runs mild to strong and occasionally stronger, which makes this the most demanding dive on the schedule. It is run as a single wreck dive of around 30 minutes followed by a shallower reef dive, and Nitrox is available for the bottom time.
Can a newly certified diver do the cenotes from Cancun?▾
Open Water certification plus at least six logged dives, and a minimum age of 15. The dives are cavern rather than cave, 9m to 12m in fresh water at 22C to 24C with almost no current, and transport from Cancun and back is included in the trip price.
When can I dive with bull sharks from Cancun?▾
In winter, and the dive itself is off Playa del Carmen rather than Cancun. The published window varies between November to February and November to March depending on which page you read, and the packaged version is sold for December to February, so confirm your dates when you book.
What is not included in the trip price?▾
National Marine Park fees and wetsuit rental, on every trip. Hotel pickup and drop-off is arranged separately for a fee. Dive computers and Nitrox tanks are rentals to request in advance.
