About Mero Diving

Mero Diving opened on Cala Lliteras in 1969 — founded by local dive pioneer Jaime Ferriol, it has operated continuously from the same bay for over 55 years. The centre is now run by Tim Jochems, who leads a multilingual team working in English, German, and Spanish. The format is seasonal: April to October, with two fixed daily departures at 09:15 and 14:15.

The bay itself is the starting point. A house reef in Cala Lliteras handles the first dive of any day package at 10-18m, before boats go out for the De Luxe tier. De Luxe dives reach NE Mallorca's reefs and caves by boat: Cap des Freu at the RM Llevant boundary, Es Farralló (the Big Cheese), Lion's Head Cave, Cathedral, and Maria's Cave — sites up to 30m. The TDI technical arm takes the operation deeper still: the submarine wreck B1 lies at 51m, with scooter dives available.

Children's programmes start at age 8, structured across three dedicated courses for different age brackets. The entrance is wheelchair-accessible. Dive insurance — mandatory under Spanish law — is sold on-site, so there is no need to arrange it before arrival.

What Divers Say

Diver accounts consistently reflect a centre that adapts to the mixed experience levels common in a family-friendly seasonal operation. Reviewers describe instructors who separate certified divers to give them more freedom while simultaneously managing introduction dives for first-timers and children in the same session. Team members are mentioned by name across reviews from different seasons — a pattern suggesting low staff turnover under the current ownership. The 55-year history is cited by repeat visitors as a reason for trust rather than a period detail. A family travelling together — some certified, some not — emerges from the reviews as the typical Mero group, and the format appears designed for exactly that combination.

The centre operates seasonally from April to October. Departures run at 09:15 and 14:15 during the season. WhatsApp and phone bookings are taken from May through October; the centre is also accessible for walk-in bookings during peak season.
What is the difference between Standard and De Luxe dives?
Standard dives start and finish in Cala Lliteras bay, reaching 10-18m depths from shore. De Luxe dives include boat transfer to NE Mallorca's reef and cave sites — Cap des Freu, Es Farralló, Lion's Head Cave, and Cathedral — at depths up to 30m. The first dive of any day package is always Standard, from the bay.
Does Mero offer technical diving?
Yes. TDI certification covers technical dives including the submarine wreck B1, which lies at 51m. Scooter dives are available alongside the technical programme. Technical pricing is not published — contact the centre directly.
What children's programmes are available?
Three dedicated children's courses cover age 8 upwards: the Children's Diving Licence (age 8+, 3 dives), Basic Diver Licence (age 10+, 4 dives), and Junior Open Water Diver (age 12+, 6 dives). Discovery dives are also available for children from age 8.
How long has Mero Diving operated in Cala Ratjada?
Mero Diving was founded in 1969 by local dive pioneer Jaime Ferriol and has operated continuously from the Cala Lliteras bay since then. The current owner, Tim Jochems, runs the centre today with a multilingual team. That makes it one of Europe's longest continuously operating dive centres.
Is dive insurance required, and can I buy it on-site?
Dive insurance is mandatory for diving in Spain. Mero Diving sells it directly at the centre: 9 EUR per day, 25 EUR per week, 40 EUR per month, or 55 EUR per year. You do not need to arrange this in advance.
