Salty Endeavors

Henry C. Schultz, III owns and runs Salty Endeavors, an SSI Platinum Pro 5000 Instructor Trainer and PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer who has worked as a dive professional since 2008 and personally selected the current team. The shop's own account traces it back to a 28-foot cargo trailer the founders towed to Cozumel from Chicago; it now operates from a custom, solar-powered trailer at the waterfront in the Puerto Abrigo harbor, a short walk from the boats.

Three similar covered boats carry eight divers or fewer, plus a captain and one or two divemasters or instructors, a pattern an independent multi-day trip report from December 2023 confirmed directly, with groups as small as five to one on the day it described. Two earlier community reports recommend the shop specifically over a resort's in-house operation on the same point, contrasting it with a single boat elsewhere carrying twenty divers. Certification courses run largely one-on-one with an instructor rather than in fixed classes, per that same report, while fun-dive groups share a boat under their own divemaster. Pickup is offered from piers across the island, with morning boats timed to return in time for lunch.

The senior divemasters, Isidro Narvaez, Francisco "Pancho" Mariscal and Martin Robertos, each carry 25 to 30-plus years and upward of 18,000 dives in the Cozumel Marine Park specifically, per their own staff-page bios. Marine-park permits ride on every boat with the conservation fee already built into the daily rate, and confined-water instruction uses a private pool rather than a shared one.

Named staff recur across independent reviewers who have never dived together: Isidro, Francisco, Martin, Eduardo, Jose, Freddy and Guillermo among the divemasters, with captains Chispa and Elias also named more than once. Every one of those names turns up on the shop's own staff page under a matching role, so the recurrence is not a coincidence of two reviewers copying each other. Reviewers credit specific divemasters for patient, safety-conscious guiding of nervous or first-time divers, including a refresher paired with a private guide and a referral diver's full certification. Multiple accounts separately describe smooth cruise-ship and resort-pier pickups, with gear left ready between dive days. The one complaint on record, a handful of late afternoon pickups noted in a 2023 report, was proactively flagged in advance by email and WhatsApp, and nothing similar turns up in the more recent review record.
