About Salty Endeavors
Henry C. Schultz, III owns and runs Salty Endeavors, an SSI Platinum Pro 5000 Instructor Trainer and PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer who has worked as a dive professional since 2008 and personally selected the current team. The shop's own account traces it back to a 28-foot cargo trailer the founders towed to Cozumel from Chicago; it now operates from a custom, solar-powered trailer at the waterfront in the Puerto Abrigo harbor, a short walk from the boats.
Three similar covered boats carry eight divers or fewer, plus a captain and one or two divemasters or instructors, a pattern an independent multi-day trip report from December 2023 confirmed directly, with groups as small as five to one on the day it described. Two earlier community reports recommend the shop specifically over a resort's in-house operation on the same point, contrasting it with a single boat elsewhere carrying twenty divers. Certification courses run largely one-on-one with an instructor rather than in fixed classes, per that same report, while fun-dive groups share a boat under their own divemaster. Pickup is offered from piers across the island, with morning boats timed to return in time for lunch.
The senior divemasters, Isidro Narvaez, Francisco "Pancho" Mariscal and Martin Robertos, each carry 25 to 30-plus years and upward of 18,000 dives in the Cozumel Marine Park specifically, per their own staff-page bios. Marine-park permits ride on every boat with the conservation fee already built into the daily rate, and confined-water instruction uses a private pool rather than a shared one.
What divers say
Named staff recur across independent reviewers who have never dived together: Isidro, Francisco, Martin, Eduardo, Jose, Freddy and Guillermo among the divemasters, with captains Chispa and Elias also named more than once. Every one of those names turns up on the shop's own staff page under a matching role, so the recurrence is not a coincidence of two reviewers copying each other. Reviewers credit specific divemasters for patient, safety-conscious guiding of nervous or first-time divers, including a refresher paired with a private guide and a referral diver's full certification. Multiple accounts separately describe smooth cruise-ship and resort-pier pickups, with gear left ready between dive days. The one complaint on record, a handful of late afternoon pickups noted in a 2023 report, was proactively flagged in advance by email and WhatsApp, and nothing similar turns up in the more recent review record.

Frequently Asked Questions
How small are the boat groups at Salty Endeavors?▾
Three covered boats, each carrying eight divers or fewer alongside a captain and one or two divemasters or instructors. An independent trip report has recorded groups as small as five to one, and two earlier community reports name the boat size as the specific reason they chose this shop over a resort's in-house operation.
Does a certification course run one-on-one or in a group?▾
Largely one-on-one with an instructor rather than a fixed class, according to an independent account of a multi-day visit. Divers booked for recreational fun dives share a boat instead, guided by their own divemaster.
Is the marine park conservation fee included in the price?▾
Yes. The 106-peso-per-diver daily fee that funds Cozumel's marine park is already built into the quoted rate, and every boat carries the permits required to dive there.
What happens if the weather cancels a dive day?▾
Cozumel's Port Captain makes that call, not the dive shop. The shop states this affects roughly ten to fifteen diving days a year.
Are the published course prices the full cost?▾
No. The one published figure, the 425 dollar Advanced Adventurer certification, is quoted before Mexico's 16 percent IVA, so the total at checkout runs higher. Guided-dive and rental prices are not published; confirm current rates directly.
Can cruise-ship passengers dive with Salty Endeavors?▾
Yes, with a dedicated logistics page for pier pickup. Some cruise piers charge a small per-person access fee of two to ten dollars, paid to the pier operator rather than to the dive shop.
Is there a rule about diving Punta Sur or Maracaibo-tier sites?▾
The shop reserves the right to ask for two or more prior dives with them before booking those sites, a safety-driven policy rather than a blanket restriction.
