About Son Bou Scuba

Son Bou Scuba is one of three dive centres on Menorca authorised to operate in the Northern Marine Reserve — a notable reach for an operation based on the island's south coast in Son Bou. The explanation is the location itself: a south-coast position in Alaior provides shelter when north or east coast conditions close dive sites, and the centre's boats can run island-wide on days when a single-coast operator would be grounded. Founded in 2004 as a family business, with more than 30 years of combined professional experience across the team, it runs six days a week Mon-Sat with morning and afternoon sessions.

The speciality is caves: 15 cave sites are in the active portfolio. Pont d'en Gil on the west coast is a genuine overhead-environment cave requiring appropriate certification — not a recreational cavern visit. Cap d'en Font on the SE coast and the Malakoff wreck at 38-40m add complementary dive types; Swiss Cheese at Arenal d'en Castell extends the NE range. Maximum group size is 6 divers. The course programme covers PADI Open Water Diver through Divemaster, PADI Cavern Diver (maximum 2 per instructor), and BSAC certifications. Sidemount diving is available for appropriately trained divers. Children's equipment is on hand. A 2.5-hour snorkelling excursion with equipment and a soft drink rounds out the offer.

The team is Dutch-speaking, reflecting the operation's primary European market, with multilingual service available for visiting divers.

What Divers Say

Son Bou Scuba is consistently highly rated in diver reviews. Three themes recur independently across the review base: cave diving is described in strong terms across separate visits by different reviewers; the team adapts dives for mixed-ability and family groups, with children specifically mentioned in multiple reviews; and return visitors make up a notable share of the base, some arriving for a second or third consecutive season with the centre. The most recent review dates to October 2025. The centre's conservation profile — Green Fins membership and Adopt the Blue award — appears as a factor in some reviewers' choice. The aggregate scores place Son Bou Scuba among the highest-rated dive centres on Menorca.
