SSI-affiliated dive centre in Armação de Pêra, central Algarve, running small-group reef trips and citizen-science dives since 1997.
Also known as: Pedra do Valado, Pedra dos Valados Reserve, Valados Wall
Albufeira boat-access wall whose name closely matches Pedra do Valado, the reef the local marine park is named after; depth remains contested.
Last updated September 2026
A rock wall drops off Albufeira, cut through with cracks and recesses that stay easy to navigate along. Octopus, conger and moray eels, wrasse, bream, damselfish and cuttlefish tuck into those gaps, with nudibranchs, sea stars and anemones covering the surfaces between them. A dive light earns its keep here: much of what lives in the cracks sits in shadow that ambient light alone does not reach. The wall runs shallow to moderate for most of its length, roughly thirteen to eighteen metres, though the full profile is reported to reach the low twenties. A boat drop puts divers straight onto the wall face, for a slow working of the crevices along the rock.
Valados takes its name from Pedra do Valado, the reef the whole marine park along this stretch of coast is named after, and its charted position sits inside that park's coordinate band, a link explained further in the FAQ below. What holds a diver's attention once in the water is the wall itself: working it slowly, crack by crack, turns up what a faster pass would miss, octopus, congers and morays worked into the gaps in the rock. It rewards patience and a torch, not speed.
Boat access from the Albufeira or Armação de Pêra area gets you to this dive. Visibility is the detail most likely to shape the dive, so a light is worth carrying for the wall's cracks and recesses regardless of surface conditions. No operator page names a discrete trip called Valados, and no diver account mentions the site by name either, so confirm with whoever runs your charter that it is genuinely on the plan before booking around this name.
What makes this dive site stand out.
Coordinates and name closely match Pedra do Valado, though the link is not confirmed
Octopus, conger and moray eels, wrasse and bream shelter in the rock's gaps
One figure gives a flat 20m, another 13 to 24m; neither is settled
Reached from Albufeira or Armação de Pêra; no shore route is described
37.0410°N, 8.3289°W
Algarve-wide calibration, not independently confirmed for this exact site
No source names a minimum certification for this site by name. Graded here from its own contested depth range: Open Water covers the shallow option, Advanced Open Water for the fuller profile toward the mid-twenties.
Summary
Described as straightforward with easy navigation along the wall, though that account is single-source; low visibility is the detail most likely to complicate it.

Neither is independently confirmed. One figure puts the maximum at a flat twenty metres, with no shallow end given. A separate travel guide gives a wider range, thirteen to twenty-four metres, and the catalogue pages that repeat that wider figure all trace back to the same original account rather than a fresh measurement. Until one is checked against a dive computer on the day, plan around the wider range and confirm the actual depth with your boat.
The evidence points that way but stops short of confirming it. The site's charted position sits inside the park's coordinate band, and its name is a close match for Pedra do Valado, the reef the whole park takes its name from. Whether this exact point is the one operators or catalogues mean when they use the name is still open. It matters if you're chasing down who runs the dive: the one operator page found for this reef advertises it as the 'Pedra dos Valados Reserve,' not 'Valados,' so search under both names before assuming a shop doesn't offer it.
Boat only, as far as every source but one agrees. One catalogue entry contradicts itself: it tags the site as boat access while its own description calls it reachable from shore. No operator or independent account describes an actual shore entry here, so plan on a boat and treat any shore claim for Valados as an error in that listing.
