About
Arrábida Experiences positions itself as more than a dive shop. Its own site frames the business as a destination-management operator for the Arrábida Natural Park, running diving, freediving, snorkelling, kayak tours and recreational-boating licence courses side by side. Founder and General Director Rúdi Lopes, an SSI Instructor Trainer, leads a ten-person team spanning instruction, logistics and administration. SSI grades the centre at Instructor Training Center, its highest tier, authorised to train other instructors as well as recreational divers, and the course ladder follows that grade past the recreational levels into Divemaster, instructor training and an SSI XR Gas Blender technical pathway covering nitrox and trimix.
Trips run on a fixed daily schedule out of Sesimbra's Porto de Abrigo, seven days a week: try-dives and snorkelling depart at 10:00 and 15:00, kayak tours at 10:00. The daily catalogue covers single, double and night dives, and River Gurara sits apart from it, sold as its own premium, advanced-diver wreck product priced above the standard rate.
A purpose-built base backs the programme: a reception building, an equipment wash and drying area, a dedicated technical-equipment storage room, a training classroom, changing rooms and showers, a support vessel and its own transport unit for gear. The centre also carries an ICNF Nature Tourism badge and a Rescue3 certification alongside its SSI standing.
What divers say
The try-dive draws the most specific praise in the sample: guides split groups by experience level, keep a spotter on the boat, and are credited by name for talking anxious first-timers through the dive. Overall sentiment runs strongly positive, and Luís Colaço, the skipper named on the team's own page, gets a direct credit from a reviewer describing a particular boat trip. Separate online communities, outside the review platforms, independently point newcomers to the centre by name, one of them from a diver who certified through it. Only a handful of reviews land outside the top two ratings, too few to show a repeated complaint.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is River Gurara priced differently from the standard daily dives?▾
River Gurara sits outside the standard daily catalogue as its own premium tier: a single dive runs 50 EUR against 40 EUR for a standard single, and a double runs 85 EUR against 70 EUR. The gap reflects the longer boat run to the wreck and its advanced-diver profile.
Which sites does Arrábida Experiences dive?▾
The centre's own SSI registration names eight sites along the Arrábida coast: Pedra da Mula, Jardim das Gorgónias, Pedra do Leão, Baía da Armação, Pedra das Âncoras, Forte da Baralha, Arcanzil and Ponta da Passagem, alongside River Gurara as a separately sold wreck product.
Does Arrábida Experiences offer anything beyond scuba diving?▾
Yes. Its own site frames the business as a destination-management operator for the Arrábida Natural Park, not a single-activity dive shop, and alongside diving and freediving courses it runs kayak tours and recreational-boating licence courses (Carta de Marinheiro, Carta de Patrão Local, Carta de Patrão de Costa).
How many divers go out on a boat trip?▾
Some products cap groups at six divers per boat, using a semi-rigid support vessel; guides also split larger groups by experience level on the try-dive product.
Is the try-dive suitable for a nervous or first-time diver?▾
Reviewers describe the try-dive as structured for exactly that: groups are split by experience level, an instructor stays with the diver in the water, and a spotter tracks the group from the boat. Divers who describe themselves as anxious credit named guides with getting them through the dive.
What is the minimum age to dive or snorkel here?▾
Eight for the try-dive (Batismo de Mergulho, about three hours including the boat trip) and, per the centre's activity listings, ten for Open Water Diver and snorkelling, six for kayak tours and seven for caving.
Does the SSI-listed 'Shore Dives' option mean you can book a shore entry here?▾
Not as a separate product. Every dive with its own page and price runs from the boat out of the Porto de Abrigo: the try-dive, the daily-dives catalogue including River Gurara, and snorkelling. The centre's SSI registration lists shore dives among its offerings, but no own product page sells one as a standalone booking; ask directly if a shore entry is what you want.
