About Cozumel Marine World
Divers pick the sites. The plan for a given day gets settled with the people who are on the boat, and the rest of it follows a set routine: the deep dive first, normally a wall between 24 and 30 metres, then a shallower second dive between 12 and 21 metres that is usually the more current swept of the two. Groups descend and ascend together. Surface intervals run an hour at minimum, taken where possible off a beach near the second site, with fruit served on board.
Jorge Marin and Alex Vina started the business in 2008 at the dive dock of Hotel Casa del Mar, roughly 4 km south of San Miguel, and both hold PADI Course Director ratings. Boats collect divers from piers along the southern hotel strip. There is a house reef at the end of the centre's own pier, used for introductory dives and available as a guided shore dive on request.
Training splits across two sister brands under the same ownership. One carries the recreational ladder from Discover Scuba Diving through Divemaster, plus specialties in nitrox, deep, drift, fish identification and underwater photography. The other carries the PADI professional line through instructor development, crossover and IDC Staff. DAN emergency courses run at instructor level.
What divers say
Praise lands on people. Divemasters and instructors get named far more often than the shop does, credited with finding animals and keeping an eye on air, and a good share of the divers writing have been coming back for ten or fifteen years. Some count the relationship in decades.
Criticism goes somewhere else entirely, and it stays there: the boats and the shoreside end of the day. As of 2019 that meant transits of 45 to 75 minutes each way, lockers and shore facilities described as basic, and a per-tank nitrox surcharge that put divers off using nitrox at all. The specifics have moved on since. A newer boat in 2025 was hard for several people to board, and in 2024 a reservation was not held and a park fee paid by card was asked for again in cash. None of it touches safety.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I choose which dive sites we go to?▾
That is how the centre normally runs a day, and the plan gets settled with the divers who are on the boat. The named advanced sites carry conditions. They are open to intermediate and advanced divers, need a minimum of four people and one day's notice, and run only if the weather and the Harbour Master allow. Night dives need six divers and the same day-ahead notice.
Which piers does the boat pick up from?▾
Any pier between the Hotel Cozumel Resort and the hotels south of it, which covers most of the southern strip. A few hotels charge a pier fee of around three dollars per person. The Iberostar is the stated exception: the centre does not collect divers there because the pier fee is too high.
Can I dive here without a certification?▾
Discover Scuba Diving costs $80 and runs about three hours, with the in-water part on the house reef at the end of the centre's pier instead of from a boat. It is an introduction under direct instructor supervision, not a certification, so a full Open Water course still follows if you want to dive independently afterwards.
Is nitrox available, and what does it cost?▾
Fills come at 32% or 36%, arranged in advance so the tanks are ready on the day, at $12 per tank on top of the trip price. Bring the certification card. The mix matters most on the first dive of the morning, which is the deep one.
What does the Rescue Diver course require here?▾
EFR, CPR and the DAN Oxygen Provider course, all three finished before the Rescue course starts. The oxygen provider requirement goes beyond what PADI itself asks for and reflects the centre's DAN training status. Budget three days minimum for the course itself.
Can I train to professional level here?▾
The professional ladder runs from Divemaster through Assistant Instructor, the Instructor Development Course, instructor crossover from another agency, Instructor Examination preparation, specialty instructor ratings and IDC Staff. Two PADI Course Directors work in the business, which is the rating needed to run an IDC. Professional-level rates are quoted on request.
What emergency training can I take while I am in Cozumel?▾
Five DAN programs run here at instructor level: Oxygen First Aid, First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries, AED for scuba diving, On-site Neurological Assessment and Diving Emergency Management Provider. They suit divemasters, instructors and boat crew, and they are worth pairing with a dive week if you already hold a leadership rating.
