About Julio Kinscuba
Julio Kin has dived Cozumel's reefs since childhood and has worked as a Divemaster on the island for more than twenty years. He runs the shop himself and guides personally, and the business's own materials describe him tracking down specific marine life on request, from flying gurnards and roughback shrimp to black tip sharks, seahorses and octopuses, while keeping a pre-dive briefing and reef protection ahead of the request.
Boat trips run in small groups, four to eight divers per Divemaster, alongside one- and two-tank reef dives and a twilight or night option. Shore diving runs directly from the shop, with weights and tanks supplied on-site and its own shore night dive. The detail that comes up most in independent reviews, spanning several years and both major review platforms, is gear care: equipment rinsed, dried and pre-staged between dive days for anyone diving multiple days running. Courses cover a refresher through Open Water and Advanced, plus Enriched Air Nitrox and Diver Stress and Rescue, under SSI affiliation. Alongside diving, the same business also runs fishing trips and parasailing, each its own page, for group members who are not diving that day.
What divers say
Reviewers repeatedly describe multi-year repeat custom with Julio directly, including divers who name him as the reason they keep coming back trip after trip, and one account of him producing a specifically requested school of eagle rays. Named staff recur less consistently: the instructor Omar is named on both Google and TripAdvisor, while a divemaster, a photographer, a guide and a captain are each named once. The rating pattern is unusually sharp, split between excellent marks and a small negative cluster with little in between; the one negative review readable in full describes a dockside pier-access dispute involving a group that was not diving with this shop that day, not a complaint about its diving service.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I get the same guide every trip at Julio Kinscuba?▾
Yes. Julio Kin, a Cozumel-born Divemaster of more than twenty years, guides personally and does not rotate divers through a training-ladder team. Multiple reviewers describe returning to dive with him specifically, some over several consecutive years.
What happens to my gear between dive days?▾
It gets rinsed and pre-staged for multi-day divers without being asked, the detail reviewers mention most across several years and both major review platforms. The centre commits to this for multi-day bookings and does not guarantee it for a single-day dive.
How many divers are on a boat trip?▾
Four to eight divers per Divemaster on boat trips, five to eight snorkelers per guide, a group size the centre advertises as small groups on speed boats for better service.
Can non-divers in my group do something else while I dive?▾
Yes. The same business runs fishing trips and parasailing, each booked through its own page, alongside the dive operation.
Can I get a PADI certification at Julio Kinscuba?▾
The centre advertises both SSI and PADI certifications, but no PADI shop listing exists for this business in that federation's own directory. Confirm which certifying agency applies before booking a course.
Is the Cozumel Marine Park fee included in the price?▾
No. It is paid separately in cash.
Why do the reviews swing between excellent and terrible with nothing in between?▾
TripAdvisor's rating for this shop splits sharply: the large majority are five stars, with a small cluster of one-star reviews and almost nothing in the middle. The one negative review readable in full describes a dockside dispute over pier access involving a group that was not diving with this shop that day, not a complaint about its diving service.
