About

S'Algar Diving was founded in 1986 at the waterfront in S'Algar Bay, on Menorca's southeast coast. Few centres in the Balearics can claim four decades in the same spot — and here, the location has a specific operational value. The Marine Reserve Isla del Aire was declared in April 2019, creating a 719-hectare protected zone that surrounds the operation on three sides. S'Algar Diving holds access for divers entering the reserve.

The centre carries PADI 5-Star, BSAC, and TDI certifications, plus Scubapro SEA partner status — a combination that covers everyone from first-timers to technical specialists. The team is led by José (known as Pepe), a TDI and PADI Instructor who holds a commercial boat captain's licence and qualifications in Trimix and rebreather instruction. Sylva (CMAS and PADI Instructor) runs the shop and daily operations; Lawrence (PADI Instructor and boat captain) handles the second vessel.

Two boats cover the site range. The main hard boat, nicknamed "Zum Zum," takes up to ten divers with a low-access ladder and full wheelchair accessibility — uncommon among Balearic operators. The RIB "Borsalino" (7.5m) handles faster transfers to the Cap d'en Font cave complex on the southern coast. Up to five departures leave daily in high season, reaching more than 20 sites between Mahón harbour and the southern shoreline, including the Santa Clara wreck at 47m and a WWII Junkers 88 bomber.

What Divers Say

S'Algar Diving is consistently highly rated by divers across major review platforms. Divers consistently mention the seven-language team and the personal approach with newer divers. The centre has built a clear reputation with families and younger visitors: it is regularly cited among the first choices for young divers making their first open-water dives in Menorca. Reviewer photos show children's Bubblemaker certificates and family groups on deck. The accessible main boat — unusual in this part of the Balearics — allows divers with mobility limitations to participate in the standard guided programme.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does S'Algar Diving coordinate access to the Marine Reserve Isla del Aire?
Yes. The centre is based inside the reserve zone and manages diver access to protected sites on the SE coast. Guests do not arrange permits independently — reserve access is handled through the centre's bookings. Ask when booking which specific sites fall within the reserve perimeter.
What is the minimum age to dive with S'Algar Diving?
The Bubblemaker pool session is open from age 8-9. The Discover Scuba bay session takes beginners from 8 years old; the boat version starts at 12. The PADI Open Water Diver course begins at 10.
Can I dive the Santa Clara wreck or the WWII bomber as an Open Water diver?
No. Both are deep-water sites requiring certification beyond Open Water — the Santa Clara sits at approximately 47m. Contact the centre directly for current certification requirements and site availability.
Is the boat wheelchair accessible?
The main hard boat is purpose-built with a low-access ladder and full wheelchair accessibility, which is uncommon among Balearic dive operators. Contact S'Algar Diving in advance to discuss individual requirements.
What technical diving does S'Algar Diving offer?
The centre holds TDI certification and offers Trimix and rebreather programmes. Instructor José (Pepe) is qualified in both. Technical course pricing is not published — contact the centre for details and prerequisite certifications.
How many departures run per day in season?
Up to five in high season: 09:30, 11:30, 14:30, 16:30, plus a pre-sunset night dive. The meeting point is 30 minutes before each departure. Dive time runs approximately one hour or to 50 bar.
