About Scuba Sur Diving Gran Canaria

Scuba Sur Diving Gran Canaria runs from a small marina at Anfi del Mar, between Arguineguín and Puerto Rico. Belgian owners Anita and Joris took over an existing dive school in April 2015, after Joris trained as an instructor at centres across Europe and Anita completed dive-school management training. They run it as a family operation, not a franchise. Instruction is capped at two students per instructor across the full SSI and PADI range, from Open Water through Divemaster internships, with specialties in wreck diving, dry suit, deep diving, and an SSI decompression course extending beyond no-decompression limits to 40 metres. All equipment is Mares, Cressi, and Scubapro, and every diver on the boat is insured.

Daily trips typically pair two sites from a south-coast rotation: the volcanic reef at Pasito Blanco, a research reef placed in 1991 for marine-life study, the reef outside Arguineguín harbour, the paired Mogán wrecks, and the Meteor, a fragmented hydrofoil wreck off El Pajar. The boat sits right outside. Reviewers on this coast call that setup unusual, since most operators here need a separate trip just to reach their boat.

What Divers Say

The same names keep coming up across TripAdvisor and the Google reviews embedded on the centre's own site: divemaster Robin, boat captain Frank, instructors Gabriel and Jack, and the two owners themselves. Reviewers describe a family-run outfit rather than a high-volume operation, with patience for mixed groups of beginners and certified divers on the same outing and no complaint about repeat trips to the same site. Briefings and safety come up specifically, not as generic praise. The one recurring caution is current strength at some sites, framed as a planning point rather than a criticism. Of 264 TripAdvisor reviews, 234 rate the centre Excellent, and Google ratings from 262 reviewers land at the same 4.9.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Scuba Sur Diving Gran Canaria the same business as Buceo Sur Gran Canaria?
No. They are two separate operators with similar names. Scuba Sur Diving Gran Canaria is based at Anfi del Mar marina between Arguineguín and Puerto Rico; the other business operates from Playa de Arinaga on the east coast. Check the address before booking if a search engine led you to either one.
How small are the dive groups at Scuba Sur?
Instruction is capped at two students per instructor across all courses, tighter than many operators on this coast. The centre runs one boat and keeps groups small by design rather than filling every seat.
What dive sites does Scuba Sur Diving Gran Canaria visit?
Daily boat trips typically pair two sites from a south-coast rotation: the volcanic reef at Pasito Blanco, a research reef placed at Arrecife Artificial in 1991, the reef outside Arguineguín harbour, the paired Mogán wrecks, and the Meteor, a fragmented hydrofoil wreck off El Pajar.
Do I need experience to dive the Mogán wrecks or the Meteor?
The Mogán wrecks call for certified, experienced divers given their depth and structure. The Meteor sits shallower at 15 metres and suits all levels, along with Pasito Blanco and the Arguineguín reef.
Is the boat far from the dive shop?
No. The boat, Yolo-II, is moored directly in front of the centre in the Anfi del Mar marina. Reviewers on this coast call that setup unusual, since most operators need a separate trip to reach their boat.
Are there strong currents at Scuba Sur's dive sites?
Some sites can have noticeable current, and at least one experienced reviewer recommends planning bottom time with that in mind. Ask the centre about conditions on the day, since site choice can shift with the sea state.
