About

Jeff has been diving the waters off Ibiza's southwest coast for more than 30 years. He and Teresa run Sea Horse Scuba Diving Centre from Port des Torrent, a beachfront base just outside Sant Antoni de Portmany. The operation is intentionally small. Groups stay tight, trips run at their own pace, and the same personal service that suits a ten-year-old on a Bubblemaker works just as well for an advanced diver who returns each summer.

The center's entire operating territory is the Cala d'Hort Marine Nature Reserve, the protected waters surrounding Es Vedra, Es Vedranell, and the Ses Bledes archipelago. Most of the reserve's 35+ named sites are accessible only by boat from Port des Torrent, a 30-minute run that puts divers into caves, wall dives, gorgonian forests, and Posidonia meadows across a range of profiles — from sheltered shallows at 5 metres to deeper walls beyond 30. Sea Horse is the closest base to this reserve on Ibiza's west coast.

PADI courses run from Bubblemaker and Discover Scuba Diving up through Rescue Diver and specialty programs including Night, Deep, and Wreck. Instruction is available in seven languages. After each trip, Jeff sends a dive video to guests. Equipment fitting is thorough — one returning diver noted Jeff tracking down a mask suited to a full beard before the briefing even started.

What Divers Say

Consistency is what the reviews document. With 345 TripAdvisor ratings averaging 4.9 — earning Travelers' Choice 2026 — and a similar rating on Google, the pattern across reviewers from Wales, France, Switzerland, and elsewhere is the same: Jeff is patient, knowledgeable, and safety-conscious without being heavy-handed about it.

Families account for a large share of the reviews. Parents describe bringing young teenagers for first dives and leaving reassured rather than just entertained. Return visits are common. Several reviewers name Sea Horse as the best operation within 20 kilometres after trying others. The pricing draws positive comment too — the most frequent framing is that the experience justified the cost rather than that the cost was low.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Sea Horse Diving good for families with children?
Yes. Jeff tailors every experience to the individual — children as young as 8 can join PADI Bubblemaker or Seal Team programs, and many reviews describe families bringing teenagers for their first dives. Small group sizes mean no child is left at the back of a crowd.
What marine life can I see in the Cala d'Hort Marine Nature Reserve?
The reserve protects the waters around Es Vedra, Es Vedranell, and the Ses Bledes archipelago. It includes caves, wall dives, gorgonian forests, and Posidonia meadows across 35+ named sites. Common sightings include reef fish, moray eels, octopus, and grouper.
How much does a try dive cost with Sea Horse?
A shore-based Discover Scuba Diving session costs EUR 75. A boat-based dive into the marine reserve costs EUR 85 at the published rate. Equipment is included. One July 2025 review reported paying EUR 130 for a guided discovery dive at Illa s'Espartar — verify current pricing directly with the center.
Do I need to bring my own scuba equipment?
No. Full equipment rental is available and included in the 'with rental' dive prices. If you bring your own gear, you pay the lower 'own equipment' rate and the center provides tank, weights, and the guided excursion.
When does Sea Horse operate, and how long is a typical dive trip?
The center runs from April to November, daily from 09:00 to 19:00. A typical boat excursion is three to four hours in total: roughly 30 minutes' transit to the reserve, a briefing, 45 to 50 minutes underwater, and a surface interval before the return.
What languages does Sea Horse offer courses in?
PADI courses are available in seven languages. The center does not publish which languages, so contact them directly to confirm availability in your preferred language.
How do I book with Sea Horse Scuba Diving Centre?
Call +34 629 34 94 99 or email seahorse-diving@hotmail.com. Walk-ins are also welcome at Playa Port des Torrent near Sant Antoni de Portmany. The center's website has been intermittently inaccessible, so phone or email is the most reliable contact method.
