About SuperDive Tossa de Mar

SuperDive frames itself as a centre that is simultaneously new and seasoned: current premises and team, more than two decades of work behind them. In its own words it cares about four things — diving, Tossa de Mar, careful work and exhaustive training, and respect for the marine environment. Personalised attention is explicit in the pitch ("nos gusta el trato personalizado, los grupos reducidos y la enseñanza de calidad"), and that small-group framing recurs in how clients describe the experience.

PADI Course Director Chiqui Bustos runs the IDC track on site, making career-track instructor training the centre's signature professional product. Co-founder Meri Alorda is a PADI Master Instructor. The full PADI ladder runs from Discover Scuba through Divemaster on standard timing, alongside a TecRec stack including Sidemount, Trimix, Rebreather, and Gas Blender. That professional pipeline is what carries the 5 Star CDC status — the only one anywhere on the Costa Brava.

The emotional anchor is seahorse work, which produced the worldwide-unique PADI Mediterranean SeaHorse Expert specialty taught here. Conservation credentials extend to membership in Observadores del Mar, WildSea Divers, and PADI's Green Star programme, plus Generalitat de Catalunya tourism quality certification. Photography is the third strand: a dedicated Fotosub camera-prep area and named photographer Rafa Cosme leading the Photosubs sessions.

What Divers Say

Four themes recur with enough density across 843 TripAdvisor reviews to read as the consistent customer signature.

The first is calm, patient guiding under pressure. Try-dive reviewers describe staff handling specific in-water problems mid-dive — a flooded mask, a panicked first-timer, an equalisation issue — without aborting the dive. One Dutch reviewer recounted a friend's mask coming off and the guide resolving it "very quietly and calmly" so the rest of the dive could continue. The second is named-staff continuity: reviewers cite specific instructors rather than the centre in the abstract (Chiqui, Meri, Pep, Marti, Guille, Ivan, Eric, Oscar, Juan Cardete), which fits the small-group, 1-to-1 or 2-to-1 pairing the website advertises. Praise spreads wide rather than concentrating on one person.

The third is facility and material quality — modern premises, dressing rooms with showers, the Fotosub area, well-maintained rental gear. The fourth is free post-dive media included with try dives, sent by email as an unexpected upgrade. The 4.9 rating across 843 reviews is consistent: 96 percent four bubbles or higher, complaints scattered rather than clustered.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes SuperDive Tossa different from other dive centers in Tossa de Mar?
It holds PADI 5 Star CDC status, the only Career Development Center on the entire Costa Brava. That means it can train instructors through IDC level, run by Course Director Chiqui Bustos. It also offers the only PADI Mediterranean SeaHorse Expert specialty in the world.
Can I do a try dive at SuperDive Tossa with no experience?
Yes. Try dives (bautizo de buceo) start from 49 EUR and take about 2.5 hours. They run from Mar Menuda beach with small groups and patient instruction. Free photos and a short video of your dive are sent by email afterward.
What is the PADI Mediterranean SeaHorse Expert course?
A specialty course taught only at SuperDive Tossa, focused on Mediterranean seahorse identification and conservation. The center participates in Observadores del Mar, a citizen-science marine monitoring program, and uses Tossa's seahorse colonies to teach the species' ecology in their natural habitat.
Does SuperDive Tossa offer professional diving courses?
Yes. The full PADI professional pathway is available, from Divemaster (590 EUR) through the Instructor Development Course. IDC candidates train under Course Director Chiqui Bustos, who has been running the center in Tossa for over 20 years.
What dive sites does SuperDive Tossa visit?
Both beach and boat dives across the Tossa de Mar area. Mar Menuda is the main shore-entry point for training and try dives. Boat dives reach deeper sites including Roca de Santa Anna and Montirivi at around 36 metres. Half-day boat departures run from 09:00 to midday.
Are courses and dives available in English?
Yes. The team works in Spanish, Catalan, English, French, and Italian. Dutch, German, French, and UK divers appear regularly across recent reviews, and instructors handle international groups without an extra charge.
Does SuperDive Tossa support underwater photographers?
Yes. The premises include a dedicated Fotosub area for camera prep, and named photographer Rafa Cosme runs the Photosubs initiation and advanced sessions. The center is a member of Observadores del Mar, so seahorse and species-ID dives are part of the regular offering.
