About

Wagic Dive Center works out of the Club Esportiu Marina in Palamós, on the southern Costa Brava. It is a small, owner-led school built around one idea: teaching scuba and freediving side by side. Guillem Sánchez Folch founded it after years of diving the Mediterranean, going on to dive iconic sites worldwide and turning professional at the Blue Hole in Dahab before opening the school back home.

The teaching style is personal. Instruction runs at a maximum of one instructor to four students, and introductory sessions can be one to one. Scheduling is flexible and arranged with each diver rather than fixed to daily boat departures. The SSI program covers the full path, from a first discover-scuba session or freediving baptism through Open Water, Advanced Adventurer, Stress & Rescue, and Dive Master, plus specialties in deep, night, wreck, navigation, and Nitrox. The freediving side starts with apnea fundamentals: breathing, relaxation, and equalization.

Guillem runs the school alongside his older brother Nico, a dive guide with deep roots in Costa Brava diving. Beyond local courses, Wagic organizes an annual program of international expeditions led by the founder, from a Cap de Creus weekend close to home to humpback whales in Mozambique and tiger sharks in the Maldives.

What Divers Say

Wagic carries an unusually strong signal for a school its size: a perfect 5.0 rating across more than a hundred Google reviews. The recurring theme is the founder's teaching. Divers describe Guillem as patient, attentive, and genuinely tuned in to each student, and that praise comes from both scuba beginners and freediving newcomers.

First-timers tend to highlight how calm and safe they felt in the water. People who came to try freediving talk about it as much more than a sport lesson. The common thread is personal, unhurried instruction, which fits a school that keeps its groups small by design.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Wagic teach both scuba and freediving?
Yes. Wagic is built as a dual school, teaching scuba diving and freediving (apnea) under one roof. The freediving baptism is a roughly three-hour introduction covering breathing, relaxation, and equalization fundamentals. On the scuba side, the program runs from Discover Scuba through to Dive Master, all on the SSI system.
How long does the Open Water Diver course take at Wagic?
The SSI Open Water Diver is typically completed over a weekend: Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday. It includes five dives, four from shore and one from a boat, and covers SSI international certification, full equipment, insurance, and course photos. The minimum age is 14.
How big are the groups at Wagic?
Small. Instruction runs at a maximum of one instructor per four students, and baptism sessions can be one to one. The center builds its approach around personal attention and flexible, by-arrangement scheduling rather than fixed daily departures.
Where does Wagic dive on the Costa Brava?
Courses and guided dives run in the Palamós and wider Costa Brava area. The center also organizes a Cap de Creus expedition weekend as a dedicated trip rather than a routine outing. For specific local sites on a given day, it is best to ask the center directly.
Does Wagic run international dive trips?
Yes. Alongside local courses, the founder leads an annual program of international expeditions. Past destinations have included Mozambique for humpback whales and the Maldives and Fuvahmulah for tiger sharks. Dates change year to year, so check current trips with the center.
What is the minimum age to try diving or freediving with Wagic?
Discover Scuba and the Open Water Diver course start at age 14, with swim ability and a medical questionnaire required for certification. The freediving baptism has a minimum age of 16.
