About

Fifty metres from the boat, fifty metres from the beach. Gidive Center Palamós works out of Local 16 at Port Marina, with its 11.5-metre boat Piola tied up in front and the training cove of Cala del Morro del Vedell along the quay. Toni Ferrer founded the center in 2007 and still directs it, carrying the senior PADI stack — Master Instructor, TEC 50 Instructor, EFR Instructor Trainer — alongside IANTD Blender and DAN Instructor credentials, and skippering the boat himself when needed.

The institutional reach is unusual for the area. Gidive reached PADI 5-Star IDC status in 2020 — the Instructor Development Center tier that trains future instructors as well as recreational divers — and added the PADI Freediver Center designation the same year. The on-site Bauer Pure Air station was renewed in 2022, so air, nitrox, and trimix are filled in-house, including the deep mixes the Ullastres III and Boreas profiles consume. The PADI TecRec Center designation rounds out a Tec 40 / Tec 40 Trimix / Tec Diver ladder that no other Palamós operator currently markets in full.

A typical day is boat-led: morning and afternoon departures to Llosa de Palamós and the Boreas at the close end, Ullastres I/II/III off Llafranc and Illes Formigues at the longer reach. Beach dives stay reserved for try-dives and course skills. Groups are capped at five divers per instructor, so on full days the center fields multiple guides rather than one large group.

What Divers Say

Across hundreds of reviews on both major platforms, the patterns repeat with unusual consistency. Personalized attention and small groups come up everywhere — "just him and the two of us" appears in different phrasings across try-dive and course write-ups, and the five-divers-per-instructor cap shows up as the lived experience customers describe.

Named-instructor recognition runs deeper than at most centers. Victor, Alex, Arnau, and Ben are mentioned by name across multiple write-ups, with new divers crediting specific guides for patient briefings and thorough teaching. The training is repeatedly described as "friendly but very professional and strict": exacting enough that students felt taught properly, warm enough that they returned. Equipment, the cove, and the on-site facilities draw consistent praise alongside the instruction itself.

Aggregate ratings sit at 4.9 out of 5 on both platforms, with Travellers' Choice recognition in 2021 and 2022. One critical write-up questions a video reward conditioned on leaving an online review; the same person found the dive safe and the operation competent. No other negative themes surface around safety, training, or operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What certifications can I get at Gidive Center Palamós?
Gidive covers the full PADI ladder from beach try-dives through to PADI Instructor (IDC). They also run a complete PADI Freediver pathway up to Master Freediver and the PADI TecRec ladder including Tec 40 and Tec 40 Trimix. It is the only center in Palamós marketing all three disciplines under one roof.
Does Gidive run boat dives to the Ullastres pinnacles and the Boreas wreck?
Yes. Daily trips depart from Port Marina on Gidive's own 11.5-metre boat Piola. Ullastres I, II, and III are regular destinations alongside the Boreas wreck (AOW minimum), Illes Formigues, Llosa de Palamós, and Roca del Món. A standard outing runs about three hours.
How much does a single boat dive cost?
A single guided boat dive is 40 EUR. Multi-dive packages are available but not listed on the website — contact the center for package rates. A half-day trip lasts about three hours.
Is Gidive suitable for complete beginners?
Yes. The Bautizo de Buceo (beach try dive) runs from Cala del Morro del Vedell, 50 metres from the center, with no prior experience required. Groups are capped at five divers per instructor. The full PADI Open Water Diver course is available in four languages.
What languages do the instructors speak?
The team works in English, Spanish, French, and Catalan. International reviews confirm full instruction is available in all four languages.
Does Gidive offer technical and trimix diving?
Yes. Gidive is a PADI TecRec Center (Dive Center 26404) with the Tec 40 and Tec 40 Trimix courses, plus PADI Discover Tec for recreational divers exploring the pathway. Trimix fills are produced in-house on a Bauer Pure Air station, which is unusual for the Palamós cluster.
