Dawn Diving Training Academy

Dawn Diving Training Academy sits in Qawra, in the thick of St Paul's Bay's cluster of dive operators. Nearly every dive here starts on the shore: standard day and multi-day packages are shore entry, with boat dives and a Gozo day trip priced separately as add-ons rather than folded into the core offering.

The team is small and hands-on. Hannes Potgieter, Director of Diving, has logged more than 10,000 dives since 1985 and ran a dive centre in Tanzania for 22 years before moving to Malta full-time. Rhona Potgieter runs the front of house and learned to dive in Scotland in the 1980s. Between them they've built a teaching style reviewers call family-like rather than one-size-fits-all, referring divers who want to go beyond recreational limits to a partner technical instructor.

Courses cover the whole ladder, from a first try dive up to Divemaster and instructor tracks, with deep, wreck and night diving as specialties. Dawn Diving has also long been known on the island as a Disabled Divers International (DDI) centre, a niche not every Malta operator covers.
