About

Sea & Sun Diving Center has operated from La Isleta del Moro since approximately 1994, making it the longest-running dive operation in the La Isleta hub inside the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata-Nijar. The park is a Natura 2000 ZEC/LIC marine reserve, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and a Global UNESCO Geopark covering 12,000 hectares of volcanic marine habitat. The center predates all three of those designations. It holds CMAS and SSI certification authority and operates under active tourism license AT/AL/00147.

The team is small and the approach is deliberate. Lead instructor Pepi was born in the park and has been a certified instructor since 2012. She guides most dives personally. Ine handles courses, baptism dives, and snorkeling routes with 10 years of diving experience. Sandra coordinates logistics and manages baptism sessions. The boat is an 8-meter vessel capped at 10 persons including the guide and skipper. That cap is not incidental: smaller groups are how the center manages attention and safety underwater.

Services include guided boat dives across 18 sites within the park, personalized discover scuba sessions, SSI and CMAS certification courses up to Divemaster level, guided snorkeling routes, and adapted diving for participants with specific physical needs. Snorkeling equipment is included. Equipment rental is available for divers.

La Isleta del Moro itself has almost no tourist infrastructure beyond a handful of casas rurales and seasonal accommodation. For divers, that's the point.

What Divers Say

The review record is unusual. 5.0 from 184 ratings on TripAdvisor — 182 rated Excellent, 2 rated Good, none lower — over a span covering at least 2019 through 2025. The center holds a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence from 2017 and a Travellers' Choice award for 2025.

Three themes repeat across years and reviewer types. The first is warmth without slackness: divers describe the team as "como en casa" (like being at home) while also noting clear professionalism underwater. The second is Pepi herself, who is named by name in multiple independent reviews, some of which state a preference to dive with her specifically. The third is the physical facility: the changing space is repeatedly noted as large and comfortable, which is not common in small village-based centers. Repeat visits are mentioned enough to register as a pattern, not an outlier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Sea & Sun Diving Center located?
The center is at C/ Punta del Castillo 20 in La Isleta del Moro, a small fishing village inside the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata-Nijar. La Isleta del Moro is roughly 40 km from Almeria airport via the N-332 and AL-3106. There is no public transport to the village, so a car or private transfer is the practical option.
What certification agencies does Sea & Sun work with?
The center holds CMAS and SSI certification authority. It is registered as an active tourism business (AT/AL/00147) with the Junta de Andalucia. A third-party aggregator listing also mentions PADI and FEDAS, but this is not confirmed on the center's official website — treat those mentions as unverified.
Can complete beginners dive with Sea & Sun?
Yes. The Discover Scuba Diving (bautismo) experience is designed as a fully personalized session with a private instructor. It includes a brief classroom introduction followed by the dive — described by the center as 'only for you.' Adapted diving is also available for participants with physical requirements.
How big are the dive groups?
The center's boat accommodates 10 persons including the guide and skipper. This is a smaller-than-average group size by Cabo de Gata standards, which reviewers consistently note as contributing to a more attentive experience on the water.
What is the lead instructor Pepi's background?
Pepi is a Tecnico Deportivo and CMAS/SSI instructor who was born in the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata-Nijar. She has held instructor certification since 2012 and personally guides the majority of the center's dives. Her name appears repeatedly in independent reviews by divers who specifically sought her out.
How does Sea & Sun compare to other dive centers in the area?
The center is the longest-operating dive operator in the La Isleta del Moro hub, with 30+ years in the park. Buceo Las Negras, a sibling operator, works from Las Negras village about 4 km to the north, covering the northern sector of the park with a broader activity menu. Sea & Sun is a smaller, more personal operation focused exclusively on diving and snorkeling.
Is the center open year-round?
Yes. Hours are 08:30-14:00 and 16:30-20:00 daily. Cabo de Gata's warm, dry microclimate makes year-round operation practical. Actual dive departures are subject to weather and sea conditions.
