About TechWise
TechWise is a dedicated technical-diving centre at the Westin Dragonara Resort in St Julian's, sharing its premises and ownership with recreational sister brand Divewise. Where Divewise handles entry-level and recreational courses, TechWise's own program is built entirely around open-circuit and closed-circuit rebreather training: IANTD, TDI, PADI Tec and GUE-friendly pathways running from Discover Tec through Tec 65 Trimix, plus CCR courses from Level 1 air diluent to full Trimix at Level 3. A house reef and two training pools sit within a short walk of the base.
Guided technical dives run daily to deep wrecks typically within about 20 minutes of St Julian's, including HMS Southwold at 70m, Le Polynesian at 45-65m and the Schnellboot S-31 at 65-70m, alongside shallower recreational-range wrecks such as Um El Faroud, P29 and Rozi. Course weeks are structured around named wreck themes, for example a normoxic wreck week combining several deep sites in a single trip, with each dive followed by a filmed video debrief used to improve technique before the next day out.
What Divers Say
TechWise sits at 4.7 out of 5 on Google (60 reviews) and 4.4 out of 5 on TripAdvisor (14 reviews). Across accounts spanning 2020 to 2026, instructor Alan Whitehead is named repeatedly, and reviewers consistently praise the facilities, structured multi-day course formats and the video-debrief feedback loop for both open-circuit and rebreather training. A couple of critical reviews are on record from TripAdvisor's wider history, though their detail was not retrievable at the time of writing; the reviews that are accessible read as consistently positive from a tech-focused clientele rather than a general recreational crowd.
