About
Port Mataró, Module B2. Same waterfront address for over four decades, same boat dock, and a roster of instructors that customers come back to find still in place after long absences. Blaumar has been running divers out to the Maresme barras — long parallel rocky ridges sitting 7 to 27 metres below the surface — since the mid-1980s, and the framing on the centre's own website is practical rather than promotional: more than forty years working at sea, more than 600 boat outings a year, year-round operation outside a short winter break.
The course pathway is CMAS/FEDAS (B1E entry, B2E, B3E), with a long specialty list — Nitrox, Night Diving, Deep, Wreck, Cavern, Underwater Photography, Marine Biology, Adapted Diving, Rescue, Dry Suit. SSI registration is parallel, used mainly for cross-recognition. Anna Maria runs the operation; Roger is the most-named instructor in long-term reviews and forum thanks; Palemon, Jordi, Salvador, Josep Lluís Peralta, Claudia and Lluc complete the regular roster. Underwater photography is a default service rather than an upsell — pictures from each outing are sent later by email or WhatsApp.
What sets Blaumar apart in practical terms is the train link. Mataró sits on the Rodalies R1 commuter line, 30 minutes from Plaça Catalunya, with services every ten minutes and a short walk from the station to the port. No car required. The 25-seater boat runs twice on Saturday and Sunday at 08:00 and 11:00, weekdays mid-morning, with each trip lasting around 90 minutes. Nitrox 32% is available across every trip type. The centre also holds Biosphere sustainability certification, displayed on the homepage.
What Divers Say
Three patterns recur across the 30 TripAdvisor reviews and the 390-review Google aggregate, both at 4.9 out of 5. The first is continuity: divers describe coming back after long absences and finding the same instructors doing the same job — one English-speaking customer captured it as returning after fifteen years and finding the standards intact. The second is the boat-time atmosphere, which Catalan and Spanish reviewers consistently single out as the highlight of a Blaumar day; the recurring word is conversational rather than commercial, with the same instructors learning regulars by name across years. The third is location, named in nearly every English-language review as the differentiator: 30 minutes from Barcelona by train rather than a Costa Brava drive.
What does not show up consistently is anything about pricing — divers describe Blaumar as a place they keep coming back to for the people, not as a budget choice or a premium experience. Equipment condition draws repeated praise, with reviewers noting well-maintained and recent kit and a port-side workflow that gets divers off the dock on time.
