About

Haliotis Sesimbra runs from Lojas 1 and 2 at the harbour, Porto de Abrigo, as one branch of a six-location Haliotis network that also covers Peniche, Madeira, the Azores and Cabo Verde. The wider network has run since 2004 and has certified more than 15,000 students company-wide, and describes itself as a PADI Career Development Center; this branch's own affiliation is the plainer PADI Dive Center. Base Leader Paulo Freitas, a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer and local skipper, and Paulo Guerreiro, a PADI Master Instructor and Tec Deep Instructor, lead a wider team pictured on the branch page.

Trips launch by boat and sell as separate named products, not one general schedule: a Single Dive Trip, a Night Dive Trip, a Freedive Trip, and a dedicated Single Dive Trip to the River Gurara wreck. Courses run the PADI ladder from recreational Scuba Diving through TecRec technical training, Freediving, Snorkelling and First Aid/EFR, and the centre holds PADI's Adopt the Blue conservation recognition.

Changing rooms, hot-water showers, two classrooms, a filling station and a rental fleet of around 50 equipment sets sit behind the harbour storefront, alongside a retail shop and a relaxation terrace for the surface interval.

What divers say

Reviewers repeatedly name the same instructors across separate accounts spread over several years, among them Tiago, João, Flora, Mariana and Iuri António, and credit them for patient, safety-focused teaching, several specifically for first-time or anxious divers. Facilities such as the hot showers and changing rooms, alongside marine-life sightings including repeated octopus encounters, recur across independent reviews. The overall pattern runs strongly positive but not unanimous: alongside the run of top-tier reviews sits a real minority describing service failures, not complaints about the diving itself, and one older account describes a cancelled dive and a missed pickup at the rescheduled trip, with the refund left unresolved.

Frequently Asked Questions

What boats does Haliotis Sesimbra use, and how big is the largest?▾

Two boats are each named the largest craft in Sesimbra: Homarus, a 12 m boat fitted with an echo sounder, D-GPS, radar and an oxygen kit, and Lioti, a separate 15 m boat. The two figures conflict, and neither size is the page's confirmed answer over the other.

Is Haliotis Sesimbra a PADI Career Development Center?▾

The wider Haliotis network, across all six of its branches, holds PADI Career Development Center status and has run since 2004, certifying more than 15,000 students company-wide. This Sesimbra location's own affiliation is the plainer PADI Dive Center level.

What is the Single Dive Trip to River Gurara?▾

It is a dedicated, separately bookable trip to the River Gurara wreck, sold apart from Haliotis Sesimbra's general dive-trip catalogue alongside its Single Dive, Night Dive and Freedive trips.

What can I train in beyond recreational Open Water diving here?▾

The course ladder runs from PADI Scuba Diving through TecRec technical training and Freediving, plus Snorkelling and First Aid/EFR, and the centre carries PADI's Adopt the Blue conservation recognition.

Why does Haliotis Sesimbra's online rating carry some negative reviews alongside the positive ones?▾

Most reviews describe patient, safety-focused instructors and repeat marine-life sightings, but a small cluster reads as service failures rather than diving complaints. The most specific is one account, from 2018, of a cancelled dive and a missed pickup at the rescheduled trip, with the refund left unresolved.

Is Haliotis Sesimbra open every day of the week?▾

Yes: the branch is recorded open every day, 09:00 to 17:00, with no closed day given.
