Begur Dive

Begur Dive operates directly from the sand at Aiguablava, one of the central Costa Brava's most sheltered coves. A single 9-metre semi-rigid carries up to fourteen divers to a dozen sites within ten minutes of the launch, ranging from the beginner-friendly Aiguablava shore dive over Roman amphora to the gorgonian wall at Cap de Begur and the advanced pinnacle at Furio Fito, which rises from a bottom past 50 metres.

The shop is an SSI Training Center and Cressi dealer running the full course ladder, from Try Scuba and Open Water Diver up through the Open Water Instructor course, plus deep, dry-suit, and Stress and Rescue specialties. Manager and instructor of record Ana Mata leads a small team that teaches in Catalan, Spanish, English, and French, and recent reviews single out instructors Oliver, Victor, Alan, and Carlos by name. The operating model leans toward small-group instruction rather than high-volume resort diving — guided groups are capped at four divers per guide, and the day's site selection rotates with the weather across the Begur catalogue.

Beyond the standard course and guided-dive menu, Begur Dive runs eco-guided dives at Aiguafreda, biology and underwater-photography sessions, and environmental-education programmes for children. A kindergarten on premises is a practical extra for diving parents — unusual for a Costa Brava beach operator and a regular point of praise in family reviews. Facilities include a repair workshop, equipment store, lockers, and showers on site, with paid parking at the beach.

Begur Dive's reputation has visibly turned a corner. The all-time TripAdvisor score (3.8 out of 5 from 48 reviews) is held down by a 2015-2018 cluster citing rushed dive plans, weak customer connection, and worn rental gear. Reviews from 2021 onwards read very differently: parents thank instructors by name for guiding teenagers through their first dives safely, solo travellers describe customised plans and "outstanding" service, and couples note "cheerful and enthusiastic" instructors across multiple dives. The 4.4 out of 5 score from 105 Google reviews — a sample skewed toward the post-2021 period — is the more representative figure for current operations. Experienced divers add a separate quality signal: a 2014 forobuceo trip report on the Furio Fito dive called the experience "una auténtica maravilla" and praised the short boat hop from the beach. The honest read is a centre that worked through a service-quality stretch and has come out with a small, named team that families and beginners visibly trust.
