About
Calle Tenerife 2 sits a hundred metres up the slope from Playa Chica, and the same two faces have been answering the door for fifteen years. Ben and Rachel bought Manta Diving in 2011 and built the shop into a triple-agency operation: SSI Diamond Training Centre, PADI 5-Star Dive Resort, and BSAC Centre status added in February 2024. Around them works a settled international team — Victor, Sam, Ciro, George, Adam, and Freddie are the names that recur most often in the review base across years rather than seasons.
Two pricing decisions set the shop apart in Puerto del Carmen. Nitrox 30% is free for any certified Nitrox diver on a guided dive. Boat dives on the custom trimaran Viviendo El Sueno are also included at no extra cost — the trimaran is positioned as the only dedicated diving hard boat operating from Puerto del Carmen, reaching sites in about ten minutes. Shore dives leave directly from Playa Chica and El Poril, both within 150 m.
The training catalogue covers SSI Try Scuba through Divemaster, the full PADI recreational ladder, and BSAC Ocean and Sports Diver, plus an SSI Extended Range designation for technical work. Children join from age 6 through SSI Explorers. Three guided dive slots run Monday to Saturday at 09:00, 11:30, and 15:00, with up to three dives a day for fit divers and an Aqualung/Apeks rental fleet for divers travelling without kit.
What Divers Say
Nearly 2,000 reviews across two platforms hold the rating remarkably steady: 5.0 across 850 Google reviews and 4.9 across 1,208 on TripAdvisor, with a Travellers' Choice award every single year since 2014 and an SSI Spain Newcomer award in 2022. Of the Google reviews, 96 are in Spanish, 38 in French, and the rest spread across Italian, German, and Dutch alongside the English majority — a wider European review profile than is typical for the harbour.
The recurring thread is patience. Nervous first-timers and divers returning after a bad experience elsewhere describe detailed briefings, unhurried pacing, and instructors who watch comfort before progression. The same instructor names — Victor, Sam, Ciro, George, Adam, Freddie — appear across multiple years, which lines up with the repeat-visitor density in the prose ("third time with Manta", "back again next year"). Families with teenagers running open-water courses show up frequently in five-star reviews. The word "safe" comes up alongside "fun" and "professional"; nothing systemic surfaces in the rare three- and four-star notes.
