Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Red Sea Diving Safari different from other Marsa Alam dive centres?▾
RSDS operates three self-contained eco-lodge villages rather than a hotel-based dive centre. Each village has its own house reef with unlimited shore diving included. The remote southern location means pristine reefs with fewer divers, and access to world-class sites like Elphinstone and Fury Shoals.
How do I get to Red Sea Diving Safari?▾
Fly to Marsa Alam airport (RMF). RSDS provides a pickup service (book in advance) for the 45-minute drive south to Marsa Shagra. Western European flights reach Marsa Alam in 4-5 hours direct.
Is Elphinstone Reef included in the diving package?▾
Elphinstone is available as an extra-cost excursion from Marsa Shagra. It is a one-tank boat dive known for pristine coral and oceanic whitetip shark encounters at depth. It is not part of the standard unlimited house reef package.
Can non-divers enjoy Red Sea Diving Safari?▾
Yes. The villages offer snorkeling on the house reefs, beach relaxation, and various non-diving activities. Workshops including underwater photography courses are scheduled throughout the year. The eco-lodge setting is appealing to nature-focused travelers.
What is the house reef diving like at Marsa Shagra?▾
The Marsa Shagra house reef is considered one of the best in the Red Sea, home to hundreds of marine species and excellent coral. Diving is unlimited and accessed from shore or by zodiac. Zodiacs take divers to less-trafficked sections of the reef when the resort is busy.
What accommodation options are available?▾
Each village offers a range from basic tents to chalets and huts. Pricing is seasonal with winter rates (November-April) and summer rates (May-October). All accommodation includes the diving program and meals.
Does RSDS offer technical diving?▾
Yes. Red Sea Diving Safari has a dedicated technical diving program alongside recreational diving and freediving courses. The depth and variety of offshore sites in the southern Red Sea make it suitable for advanced and technical divers.
