About
Montjoi Diving Center's own boat doesn't dock at a pier; it's beached on the sand of Cala Montjoi, so divers and kit load straight off the beach, the cove where the centre runs from inside a family holiday resort, Cala Montjoi Resort & Bungalow, south-east of Roses. That setting shapes who dives here: course groups start at age 14 for the PADI Open Water / FFESSM-CMAS Level 1 and age 16 for Level 2, and the centre offers a discount for parties of 15 or more, consistent with the families and school groups a resort base attracts.
From the beach, the boat reaches sites including El Gat and the wider stretch toward the Bisbe area and Cap de Creus within about five minutes' navigation, and the centre names eight sites in total that it serves. Dive buoys go in at every point between April and October, marking the practical diving season. Affiliations run through PADI, FEDAS and CMAS on the centre's own course pages, alongside FFESSM (a 40 EUR federation licence fee applies to Level 1, on top of the course price), and the centre also carries a listing with SSI. Courses run in Spanish, Catalan, English and French.
The one thing that sets Montjoi apart from a standard course ladder is a week-long freediving and apnea course, run in late June or early July, roughly ten hours a day, taught by former world freediving-record holder Umberto Pelizzari alongside his own instructors, with accommodation and meals included in the price.
What divers say
Feedback on Montjoi splits across two channels: a small listing under its own name, and diving-specific reviews that show up folded into the wider resort's own page instead of a dedicated dive listing there. Both land on the same thing: instruction. One review describes a "team of experienced professional instructors," and recent write-ups repeatedly single out one instructor by name, praised for the way dives are taught, not for the facilities or the boat. The one visible diving-specific complaint is about a front-desk interaction with the director, not about instruction or safety, and it sits alongside praise for the rest of the team in the same review.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a dive centre right at Cala Montjoi, inside the resort?▾
Yes. Montjoi Diving Center runs from the beach at the Cala Montjoi Resort & Bungalow, south-east of Roses, as a PADI, FEDAS and CMAS affiliated operation with its own boat.
Can complete beginners try diving here, or do I need to be certified already?▾
Beginners are welcome. The discovery/baptism dive runs as a shore dive in the resort's own shallow Posidonia meadow a few metres off the beach, no certification required; certification courses start from age 14.
Does Montjoi rent gear separately, or is it included in the price?▾
Equipment isn't sold as a standalone rental item. It's built into the course and guided-dive prices, and anything beyond that is arranged directly with the centre.
What sites does Montjoi's boat reach, beyond the resort's own bay?▾
The centre lists eight named Cap de Creus sites it serves, and its own team names El Gat and the wider Bisbe stretch among the closest, within about five minutes' navigation of the beach. Dive buoys go in at all its points between April and October.
What's the freediving/apnea course, and who teaches it?▾
A week-long course in late June or early July, roughly ten hours a day, run by former world freediving-record holder Umberto Pelizzari alongside his own instructors. It costs 990 EUR and includes accommodation and meals.
Why is there so little independent feedback specifically about the diving here?▾
Montjoi operates inside the Cala Montjoi resort. It carries a small listing of its own, and separately, most guest feedback about the resort as a whole, diving included, sits on the resort's own page. The record under Montjoi's own name is small but consistently positive on instruction.
