Montjoi Diving Center
Beachfront PADI/FEDAS/CMAS dive centre inside the Cala Montjoi resort near Roses, running its own boat to Cap de Creus sites and a seasonal freediving course.
Also known as: La Cova Fumada, La Cueva Fumada, La Fumada
A boat-only Cap de Creus wall with a cave holding a hidden air chamber, on a single profile to 40 metres.
Last updated September 2026

Cova Fumada runs as a wall dive to a working maximum of 40 metres, ninth of thirty points on the park's own underwater-itinerary index, in the coastal sequence between Cova de l'Infern and El Bisbe.1 The chart for this stretch marks a shallow -3 metre contour near the coastline, a deep edge of -50 metres at both ends of the surveyed area, and its own dive point close to the centre, at -25 metres. Scattered gorgonian fans grow along several of its deeper contour lines, and partway down the wall a cave opens into an air chamber: a pocket of trapped air inside the rock that the chart itself does not depict as a cave at all.
Six species headline the park's own eco-briefing sheet for this exact point: the red gorgonian, the dusky grouper, the conger eel, the yellowmouth barracuda, the ocean sunfish and a sea slug the sheet names Pleurobranchus testudinarius.1 Midway down the wall, an opening leads into a hidden air chamber, the dive's one overhead section and the reason a torch belongs on this profile.
A night dive here needs the park's own prior authorisation, the same as elsewhere inside Cap de Creus's Partial Nature Reserves.2 Inside the cave, treat the air chamber as any other overhead section: torch on, buoyancy tight, and know your way back out before you commit to it.
What makes this dive site stand out.
A cave off the wall holds a pocket of trapped air, unmarked on the park's own chart
Depth runs from a 3 m contour near shore to the wall's 40 m working maximum
The government's own eco-briefing sheet illustrates six species for this exact point
This dive is boat-only, with no shore-entry option
42.2381°N, 3.2649°E
No season specific to this point is documented; like the rest of this stretch of the park, the Tramontana wind can close boat access here in winter.
Graded from the 40 m working depth alone, which calls for deep certification as the realistic entry point. This dive is sometimes marketed as suitable for all levels; that label does not match the depth or the cave section.
Summary
Advanced by depth alone: the working profile sits past 30 metres throughout, with a cave section partway down the wall.

No. "La Cova Fumada" is also the name of a well-known bar and restaurant in Barcelona's Barceloneta district, founded in 1944 and credited with inventing the bomba croqueta; it dominates general web search for the name. This entry is a dive point on the Cap de Creus Natural Park's own underwater-itinerary index, on Catalonia's northern coast, with no connection to the restaurant beyond the shared name.
No. "La Fumada" is a shorter name used for the same site in some listings, alongside "La Cova Fumada" and "La Cueva Fumada." The park's own itinerary sheet, the fullest source for this dive, titles it simply "Cova Fumada."
No. The two are listed as separate dives, both reaching a maximum depth of 40 metres: Cova Fumada is a wall with a cave and air chamber, and El Gat is a pinnacle. Neither is described as an extension of the other.
