Diving Portlligat
SSI-listed dive centre inside the Carpe Diem Cadaqués complex, running since 2008 with three daily boat departures across 15 named Cap de Creus sites.
Also known as: Cova Pelegrí, El Pelegrí, Pelegrí Cave
A shallow cave at the mouth of a Cap de Creus wall, tagged outside the reserves where the park's night-diving and bautismo limits apply.
Last updated September 2026

A cave mouth at 8 metres opens into a wall that keeps dropping, past a park-marked reference point at 22 metres toward a stated 35 metres on the guided route out of Roses. The rock carries the shift you would expect along that profile: cup coral and nudibranchs work the cave's shaded lip, moray eels hold the crevices, and an octopus is as likely tucked into a crack near the entrance as out on the open wall. Barracuda pass over the deeper rock, and the park's own chart marks gorgonian growth between 26 and 30 metres for divers running the fuller route. No shore route reaches this point: every account of it starts from a boat.
Two species on the park's own species panel need exactly this kind of shelter: the golden cup coral Leptopsammia pruvoti and the nudibranch Flabellina affinis both favour shaded overhangs and cave mouths, and the sheet illustrates them alongside four more species for this exact point. Sotamar frames the cave as one stop inside a broader multi-level dive out of Cadaques, with the entrance at 8 metres; Roses Sub instead runs a dedicated wall route out of Roses, to a maximum of 35 metres.
Access is by boat only, with no shore-entry option at this point. The usual park rules apply throughout: no touching, taking or altering anything living or archaeological, and independent diving needs prior notice to the park authority, capped per boat, not per diver, at six dives a day, thirty a week, one hundred twenty a year. The cave mouth and the wall beyond it are two different dives, not one profile at two depths: neither operator describes swimming from one into the other, so the choice gets made at booking, not underwater.

Dive centres in Catalonia must require insurance from every diver on their dives, and must be able to offer a policy to anyone who has none.
No. That rule is written specifically for the park's three marine Partial Nature Reserves. Cova del Pelegri carries the park's general zone tag instead, so the reserve-only requirement for special authorisation before a night dive, and the ban on bautismo/initiation courses, do not bind here, unlike several neighbouring points tagged as reserve.
No. Port Pelegri is the house reef of a different dive centre near Palamos, about 40 kilometres south of Cova del Pelegri and outside Cap de Creus Natural Park entirely. The two share part of a name and nothing else.
It depends on the operator and the route. Sotamar frames this as an 8-metre cave entrance within a broader multi-level dive; Roses Sub runs it as its own wall route to a stated 35 metres. Confirm which profile your trip follows before booking, since the two options sit on opposite sides of the AOW/Deep certification line.
