About
Long Island is Red Sea Explorers' largest hull, with 28 guests across 14 ensuite cabins over three decks and air-conditioned lounges. It runs the same route catalogue as the rest of the fleet, from northern wrecks and Tiran out to the offshore marine parks and the deep south. The dive deck is built for serious diving, with scooter, stage and doubles support and an oxygen analyser on board.
The point of difference from MV Tala is mixed gas. That stays Tala's domain. Tala is the operator's trimix and rebreather flagship, while Long Island is tech-capable but lighter, geared to nitrox, doubles, stages and DPVs rather than a full helium fill station. The wider Red Sea Explorers character still carries across: a GUE-leaning outlook, founder-led technical roots and guiding pitched at demanding sites.
Routes reach the Brothers, Daedalus and Elphinstone parks and the far-southern Rocky, Zabargad and St John's reefs, with northern wreck and Tiran weeks running year-round. Departures leave from Hurghada, El Gouna or Port Ghalib. The roomier layout and higher cabin count make a comfortable base for week-long trips, and the itineraries still suit experienced, current-comfortable divers.
What Divers Say
Feedback on Long Island tracks the wider Red Sea Explorers reputation. Guiding is the standout. Crews earn praise for being knowledgeable and safety-led on demanding offshore and deep-south sites. Divers point to the roomy layout and higher cabin count as a comfortable base for week-long trips, backed by a serious dive deck with scooter and stage support. Hospitality and fresh-cooked food come up warmly and often. The recurring caveat matches the fleet: these itineraries suit experienced, current-comfortable divers, with logged-dive minimums south and at the Brothers, and substance valued over resort-style luxury.
